Ran across a PTR91 today. Can someone give me the lowdown on these things? Are they really new in box? Are all the parts new? Should I measure and inspect everything like with the CETMEs? Any help would be appreciated!

I got mine used, couldnt tell on new/used parts from previous gun though. All green furniture/wide handguard so I figure those arent original. I had it checked out by a gunsmith to be sure and he said it was all fine. Very good quality gun. Think HK quality without HK prices. Never hurts to inspect just for piece of mind. MAKE SURE you only put NATO rounds through it. (There will be a circle with a cross inside on the head stamp) The brass is thicker than commercial .308, if you dont, it will rip the cases in half and the next one in the chamber will have a double neck and its a pain to slam the butt down pulling on the charging handle. (I know from experience.) I havnt played with mine much but it shoots about 2-3 inch groups at 100 yards off hand and bench rested. My trigger pull isnt the best, Im used to match RRA trigger :-p
One last thing, dont rest your cheek on the upward slope thinking you will have the same sight pic like "nose to the charging handle." Do it once and you'll see why not.

In short: they are a great rifle - truly excellent quality.
Mix of new US made compliance parts and some as-new condition FMP (Portuguese) parts. Most new parts are made on the FMP tooling - licensed from HK.
New from the box they are generally 100% (unlike a Century G3 equivalent). If you do have issues, JLD/PTR have good customer service and a great warranty.
For affordable HK G3 quality, you could do a LOT worse.
