today for some reason i got to thinking about some of my training in the military and some i have forgotten. i need a little help remembering.

i was in the air force and we got very little training in small arms in basic training , so they sent about 20 of us to treasure island navel base ( i think that was the name of it) in oakland calif. for 3 days. this was in 1967.
we were to operate operational landing in vietnam and other out post. were were trained on the m16, 45, 1919, 50 cal. by some marines. for some reason i remember shooting at targets in the oakland bay. is that possible? or am i just having a dumb thought ( memory)?.

Isn't Oakland on San Francisco Bay? Other than that, Small arms fire isn't going to go all the way across to Frisco, so why not? So long as they section a part of the bay off to keep boats out of the line of fire, which they do all along both coasts.

Yea and even if it did I don't think they would notice it in Oakland. It would get lost in with all the other automatic weapons fire

Actually, Treasure Island, in San Francisco Bay is within the San Francisco City Limits. Because of it being in the center of San Francisco Bay I don't think you were shooting out into the bay...

I was stationed on Yerba Buena Island (the smaller island; on the lower right corner of the photo is the Coast Guard Base where I was the supply officer from 1996 - 1999. I remember going to firefighting school there in 1973 but I don't remember them having a big firing range there...they could have though.

It just seems like I've heard of a range on San Francisco Bay. I really dont remember clearly, but it just seems like I've heard that before. Near Oakland.
