I have a CETME that I have had since around 99. It has always had an issue with the magazines being tight and having to have a good solid thump to seat them. After searching and reading I have decided that based on other posts that my Mag well is probably to long. I would like to clear up this issue, but don't want to cause additional problems. Is there a tutorial or pictures of this modification? I searched but couldn't find it. I have about a 1000 rounds through the rifle without any FTF, FTE etc. I either want to fix it or sell it. If it makes any difference, it has the cast stainless receiver.
Thank you for any information.

A few questions about your rifle. Is yours a Century built Cetme? Is it cast stainless receiver or a stamped steel receiver? Are you using HK mags or sure enough Cetme mags? All of these things will effect how the mags fit in the rifle. From what I have read here on the forum Century cast receivers may be slightly out of spec and don't reliably fit all types of mags.
Here's a link to a discussion on rather to "fix" the magazines or "fix" the receiver. I won't offer an opinion on it other than magazines are cheap.

I've got two CETMEs that I surfaced the bottom of the mag well on, and they both now reliably load any mag no problem. They both have the cetury stainless reciever.

I don't have the SS receiver, but the Hk mags are a tighter fit than the CETME mags in mine. They need the love tap to seat them. Or if you're being watched, insert the mag halfway into the well and then slap the rest of the way in like you're some alphabet agency guy. But only while wearing cool sunglasses.:airtight:

It is a Century build with the cast stainless receiver. I have both CETME and HK magazines and the problem happens with both types of magazines. I certainly don't mind modifying the magazines, I was just hoping to modify the receiver instead of 15 - 18 magazines.
I will check out the link.

All you have to do, is take some material off (evenly) from the bottom of the magwell, with a file. File a nice edge all around, check and file more if needed. Once all the mags sit nicely with not too much wobble, finish the filed edge with satin Birchwood-Casey "pen".
Works like a charm.
