I have been trying to find a good pair of gloves for shooting in cold weather. I havent found a pair yet that my hands wont get cold in. Someone told me that nomex flight gloves would work. Anyone agree? If so i need to find a place to acqure some real ones and not knock offs made in china

I instructed combat pistol, shotgun and rifle for fifteen years (fourteen winters in the Rockies) I regularly wore nomex flight gloves on the range when it was cold. They were real comfortable for me all the way down to the low teens F. When it got colder than that, I used a pair of military shooters mittens over the top of them, which I could pull off when actually firing or handling weapons. The nice part about them is that my hands did not perspire in them because of the leather palms and the nomex back. When your hands get a little sweaty, that's when they start to freeze up. Also, I never found a weapon that I could not effectively or safely operate with them on because of their close fitting design. They allow excellent dexterity.

I like to use the glove-mits.When it is really cold I wear some polypropylene glove liners under them. You can just stick your trigger finger out with the mit part over your other fingers. Or if it is a bit warmer wear them with the mit folded back, and have full dexterity.

Side note,,,,, the other thing I found they were excellent for was loading magazines when cold. The capeskin leather is tougher than you might think, and won't get snagged on parts of the weapon or magazine lips etc., and you can feel what you are doing through them.

Because they liked the old mans so well, both of my sons took two or three pair with them to Afghanistan and Iraq, and rarely did not have them on. They also don't melt to hot barrels if you happen to get your hand where it shouldn't be.

Probably not as cold as in your picture of the great white north....Dec through February it was regularly -10 to +30 on range days here, Rarely any warmer than freezing. Of course I always scheduled range days on the coldest and windyest days I could find.....just made it more intersting.

I tried some when they first came out, I think they were the Cayman insulated mechanic gloves, also tried a pair of the regular non insulated ones, but I still had trouble with them interfering somewhat with grip aquisition and trigger control. They were warm though... And I'm going to Alaska some day I hope. You live in one of the last truly beautiful places in
the world. Had a couple of chances to go there and work, but couldn't convince my wife.

I live where it's damn cold...I like the fleet farm insulated work gloves for shooting. If your looking for milspec go with a pair of insulated nomex navy flier's gloves.

I go with the USGI shooter's mittens w/ wool inserts as well. There pleanty of room in the trigger guard on my M1As and Garand but I honestly haven't tried my 1911.
They do keep the fingers warm & toasty when you slip an harm warmer packet between the liner & shell if it's extra cold.
