Man it really pisses me off, seriously, why the hell is the NAACP and Al Sharpton and all those idiots trying to fire him so bad? so we have all these shows on comedy central where they can make fun of the white race so much, and yet if you drop the n-bomb you're going to get fired?
yep, sure it was insensitive, but are you sure that the black community has been really doing that much for racial justification lately? it's almost like they're hyped up on the coverage they get from freak'n CNN whenever some little comment's made.
i think martain luther king jr is a hero, and i think that the movement had been pointed in the right direction, but it seems like it's going overboard. sometimes it's not even fighting for the rights of the "coloured man", it's fighting to crush all other race's rights!
it really gets to my nerves whenever i see how segregated lots of the minority fraternaties/sororities here at baylor are. i really don't see how segregated groups like so are helping releave the racial tension that's going on around our society.
NO! i'm not trying to say certain groups of people are better and some are worse. i'm just ticked off seeing people say they want the world to get along, and yet they just do things to fuel the misunderstandings.
they're not fighting for equality, they're using the word equality to fight for their own superiority.
alright, now i'm probably gonna get grilled on this post...

Not on this board, we all know about the double standard. The only time you can make fun of a so called minority is.. when he or she is percived to a conservative. i.e Clarence Thomas as a lawn Jockey, Condelesse Rice as a monkey, the mild anti Chinese slurs to Bush cabinet member( sorry I can't remember her name) Anti Korean slurs during the LA riots. Anti Cuban slurs during the Elian Gonzales fiasco, anti gay slurs if the gay person supports a postion not favored by the left and of course anti Jewish slurs many times over support of Israel or by so called 'civil rights' Czars. To bad about the self seggeration at collage campuses. When I was in active duty in the Army I had a chance to meet all sorts of people that I would have never met before. I thought collage was supposed to do that also.

If Chris Rock would have said it, you wouldn't even know about this waste of time, what he said is ate up but people of any race need to have a thicker skin and let it go. It's almost like the media is trying to stir crap up.

As far as I see it, noone will ever be equal till we can take anything anyone else says in full stride. If someone wants to call me a cracker jack, fine, whatever. I can't say anything back or it'll be a 'racial conflict'. The more people who get offended by everything, the more we all have to work to please eachother, and noone gets anywhere fast. People who start a fit like this over anything that offends them need to pipe down and take it like I have to, or move the hell out of the country.
Personally, I prefer Australia's stance: If you're offended, too damn bad. If you offend us, go somewhere else.

Folks are too sensitive this day in age, If I worried about everything I was called in my lifetime I'd be a sad azz sack of S*&t.
I grew up skinny and with a stutter, kids and adults alike would make fun of me to my face. When I was young it would bother me.
Now that I'm older and have worked out and grown quite a bit, folks don't seem to be as much of the smartazzes they used to be.
Funny how that works out, when folks are face to face with the ones they make fun of they change there tune.
I'm white, male and straight, in this day in age we can't say sh&^t.

Yup... I can't help but think "hey, it's ok for him to do racist comedy, because he's a minority!" everytime I see a commercial for "Mind of Mencia"... and how much that doesn't make sense.

When all of the minorities become the majority and I then become a minority will I be able to use the race card?
He L L no!
When a minority makes a racial comment we non-minorities "need to understand" why they feel the way they do and accept it. When we say something then it's "a pound of flesh" time.
Grrrrrrrrrrr.

I grew up white in the wrong hood, so I have lived the "minority" BS. I had a list of words that I was never to utter for fear of getting my ass kicked or worse. I was raised to be better than that and my kids are being raised that way as well, but so many people do not let go of their predjudices and pass them on continuing the problem. Now you also have to contend with getting TV coverage, book deals, or suing someone for money you should not be entitled to, and for what? Drug money or fixin up the trailer. People that can't let this go and be better than that should be flogged in the square in public.

well, i just typed up a shorty little column that i'm submitting to tomorrow's paper, i know it's just a school paper, but i jsut wanted to get my thoughts out there
i'm really glad you guys agree with what i'm trying to say! but if i didn't get grilled here, i'll probably be shanked on campus somewhere when this gets out. i don't care.
lots of the guys in the journalism dept. i'd worked with here at baylor were liberal freaks, i couldn't believe how skewed it was, too bad i was just the photo editor, it almost seemed like i was a little conservative spec in a vast sea of liberal views
here it is:
Don Imus: Who’s the real victim?
It’s out, Don Imus is suspended! We’ve shown this racist, this white devil! Justice is finally served!
Al Sharpton and the NAACP sure worked hard to make sure that MSNBC were to fire Imus after he made his “nappy-headed” comment on the Rutgers Women’s Basketball Team, but who’s the real victim here?
Yes, it definitely was an insensitive comment, but are we so sure that these “representatives” for the black community has been really doing that much for racial justification lately? It's almost like they're hyped up on the coverage they get from CNN whenever some little comments made.
Just switch on your television to comedy central or BET; there are plenty of racial jokes out there! They’re hilarious! Hey Chinese people really do eat lots of rice! Ha ha! White people can’t dance? All Hispanics pile their cars full of people when they drive down the freeway? Yet whenever anyone drops the “N” word, you better get ready for Armageddon.
For equality, comedians nowadays seem pretty unfair on the racial sensitivity spectrum; or is it our society that harbors our unequal treatment for ethnic groups?
I think Martin Luther King Jr. is a hero, and I certainly think that his movement had been pointed in the right direction, but it seems like it's going overboard. Sometimes it's not even fighting for the rights of the "coloured man"; it's fighting to crush all other race's rights!
It really bugs me whenever I see how segregated some of the minority fraternities/sororities here at Baylor are. I really don't see how some self-segregated groups like so are helping relieve the racial tension that's going on around our society.
NO! I’m not trying to say certain groups of people are better and some are worse. I’m just tired of seeing people say they want the world to get along, and yet they just do things to fuel the misunderstandings.
Are they fighting for equality? Or are they using the word “equality” to fight for their own superiority? You be the judge, but I believe the society is the real victim.
Henry,
This whole thing will more than likely cost Imus his job and more. The I-man has provided a lot of decent commentary, but what every one is forgetting is that his job is to entertain. It's funny that no one goes after all the other remarks that are made by "minorities" like you said. There is in fact multiple double standards, and this is truly the nation of the "offended minority" funny how the "minorities" are only offended when a "white" person says something. Yes, Imus does not have the best sense of humor, it's part of his show. Do I think he is racist and prejudiced, NO! I think the man made a bad joke, he apologised, it should be over. But it is not.
If he looses his job so should his critics.. There is no freedom of speach for a man who is not a "minority".
If folks don't like what Imus has to say, don't listen to him. Oh wait, because a few folks were offended now nobody can listen to him. It is what amounts to censorship, where the "minority" can force the rest of "us" to accept what "they" want. This is total BS.
I hope Imus can recover from this, I hope folks can see how stupid this whole matter is, and I hope "we" as a people can move beyond this.... I might as well wish to win the lottery while I am at it because none of it will happen.
The man's words did not hurt anyone, the actions of his critics and their actions are what caused the uproar. What a shallow minded country this has become where a man has to watch every single word he says and mistakes in any shape form or fashion are NOT allowed.

Henry,

see, i personally do think it's a pity that this comment would cost him his job and i really think it's a sad thing, but i'm trying to not sound too... radical? i'm trying to sound more neutral, cause i don't want people to read it and think "oh well there goes another conservative southern baptist school kid".
i think it's kind of hard to address this issue without pissing certain people off, and it's kind of ironic that i'm trying to criticize the "political correctiveness" and yet being bound by it at the same time... but i guess that's how the world works huh

Henry you are 100% spot on.....
this aint 1861, nor 1961... you'd think that by now society would have grown up to learn to accept and embrace diversity in all its forms, racial or otherwise, but the simple fact is that no matter how hard we try there will always be people from both sides that will ruin it for the rest of us..... i.e. Mayor Ray Nagin (racist) Louis Farrakan (racist) AL Sharpton (racict), but dont forget the other side (David Duke) (Racist) pre 1999 Strom Thurmond (great politician, but still racist) Kramer, cant remember his real name and countless more.... hell in my neighborhood alone i can count at least 20 more...... its really friggin sad that as a country dubbed the "melting pot" that we arent able to get past this crap

So Don Imus slipped and expressed an opinion. Woops. So did Jim Zumbo. Woops again. How closely are these two related, both said something that pissed off a specific group, and both got grilled by the public for it. Just how far should this go and when do you say enough??? Just how F*%$in PC are we going to get before it stops? I am tired of this BS, I love my country:America: and hope we can get over this and just get along. :kiss1: Then we can worry about things that are actually important. :fn-fal: I as sick and tired of the press pirating the news:piratecap: just to fill the headlines. How do we get 10,000 folks to e-mail the press and tell them we have had enough and want decent news that is actually newsworthy, noit just crap to fill the front page. How about on days when there is no good news they just send out blank paper so we can color on?

and I just wanna say what I've said B4:
This PC, touchy-feely, kneejerk bs has gotta stop! All we're doing is paving the way for the real crushers of diversity (Islam?) to roll in and whine, right before they start imposing their own dual-standard sharia law on us.
I ain;t a big fan of monotheism, but at least Judaism and Christianity have NO probs whatsoever running a society secularly....anybody with church plice doon;t belong here.

Actually for Zumbo to be like Don Imus, Don Imus would of had to be working for Al Sharpton when he said the words that got into trouble. Zumbo bashed a type of gun, companies in a business related to guns pulled their advertising. Would have worked out fine for him if he was writing a column about decorating houses.
As for the whole predujice and what to say thing. I grew up in a area full of Nazis and mexican Mafia. They got along fine with each other. Well unless some drug money was unaccounted for. As for me, they were both predujice against me. As for not saying something to tick them off. Just having any kind of a mind of your own ticks them off. They should all be deported to some island that was used for nucleur testing. (I don't mean illegal aliens, they can be shipped off to Mexico. The Nazis and Mexican Mafia specifically deserve a nice remote bug infested radioactive island)

What gets me is just the shear hypocrisy we have here.
It's OK for Jesse Jackson to make all kinds of anti-Semitic statements (and he wasn't joking either) and now he gets all sorts of TV spots and gets to speak at the Dem national convention.
Same as that blowhard Al Sharpton, he can say anything he wants about whites, (remember Twanna Brawley) he wrecked those policeman's lives which all ended up being bases on lies and he gets the media spotlight anytime he opens his big fat mouth.
Look at the Duke case and how the these same two blowhard racists jumped in trying to ruin those boys lives, again all over a pack of lies. Why aren't they being called out on that alone?
It's ok to make jokes about people with blonde hair, but just don't make any jokes about nappy heads.:icon_wink:

Well the powers that be gave in and gave al shaprton his wish, Imus was fired by CBS radio. I might not like what he said, but heck we are becoming a thin skined group of folks here.
CBS Radio bowing down to the pressure has shown us their true colors... I hope Imus goes on to satalite radio and CBS Radio goes down the toilet. I guess now they can make room for rev jesse and al sharpton and their new show "who's daddies are we?????"
This will free up space for CBS to embrace BET and have more BET type programming on CBS radio.
Good luck IMUS, thanks for the good you have done with your charity work.

The way I see it, not only do we need to blame the networks, but more importantly the sponsors that caved in and bailed out. There should be a list compiled and so we know who not to buy from.

The greater thing here is man stuck foot in mouth, that really in many ways was his job to do, just he did it so well the network couldnt out live the publicity, Remember there is no such thing as bad publicity.

the big beef on the local talk radio shows is that they feel that the market can decide whats go and what isn't. If you don't like Imas don't listen. They feel that other talk radio hosts may be singled out next by the rainbow push crowd.

Imus really blew it when he went on Al Sharpton's show. A simple "I apologise" would have been enough. The Rutgers students didn't even know who he was until Sharpton got ahold of it. Fact is Imus has been making blatantly racist comments for years. You won't hear him on Satelite. He has no ratings draw on radio, hence he brings nothing to the table. Sirius and XM will soon merge. Sirius won't bring him on, Mel Karmazin, who runs the show at Sirius, and Howard Stern hate him. Had Imus treated Al Sharpton like the piece of garbage he is instead of kissing his butt, he'd still have a job.

Regardless of the fact that there are racists of all colors, what he said was just plain stupid.
I am not quiet certain what all the fuss is about.
Theres some how a race card involved?
All he said was? " nappy headed ho's "?
Lets break this down.
Nappy is an adjective.
Fact or fiction? Fact their hair could be considerd nappy. How can you be offended by the truth? They where in the middle of a basket ball game, acourse their hair is going to be nappy.
Ho's
Is an urban term for women.
All the guy was trying to do was assimilate the black american culture and try and use their lingo.
How can the black community be offend if Ron was using their own terms?
If there was any thing racist said, it was said by all the people crying out for rons head. Why cant a white person use the term "ho's",but a black american can fill up cd after cd with that term and far worse things? Thats the true racism.
If it seems like i am looking at this ass backwards, Its cause i dont believe this guy should have lost 1 penny of pay, let alone is entire career. For some thing he said. Especially since this term, is a term that is repeated in song after song by the very people it has offended.

More of Al's wizdom:
In 1989, a young woman jogger in Central Park was viciously raped and beaten by a gang of youths. Sharpton led a mob outside the court which claimed, without a shred of evidence, that "the boyfriend did it," and screamed that the victim was a "whore."
At a rally in Harlem, Sharpton denounced a Jewish small business owner as a "white interloper," and then stood by approvingly while one his associates incited the crowd to violence. Later, a listener killed seven people in the store. Sharpton then lied and claimed he had never been at the rally.
Sharpton helped incite a murderous anti-Jewish pogrom in Brooklyn when he gave a speech at a funeral of a black child who had been accidentally killed by a Jewish driver. Sharpton announced, "If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house." He also organized a boycott of small grocery stores owned by Korean immigrants. He called New York City's first black mayor, David Dinkins, "that n----- whore turning tricks in City Hall."
In 1994, Sharpton explained black cultural superiority: "White folks were in caves while we were building empires. . . . We taught philosophy, astrology, and mathematics before Socrates and those Greek homos."
