For this weeks overview I'll go over the M12 trainer rifle. These are a accurate rifle offered by the CMP to individuals and groups. Its the military version of the H&R (Harrington & Richardson) 5200 approx 15,000 were made for the military (source CMP website).
These are HEAVY rifles and now a days they do not come with sights. This was my 1st target rifle and it was had with the sights NIB way back for a song. Now the sights go for about $300 a set used. They came with international Palma rears with a globe front and a little baggy of inserts.
These single shot rifles will make 1 hole with 3 shots from 50' with the correct ammo combination. I now own 2 of these (1 for a back up) and have run about 12,000 rounds through my main rifle and its just now breaking in. The stocks on these are thick and bulky and one could do a lot better if they are good with wood and Acra glass. I made a new stock for mine and had baker custom butt plate made for it by my friend Jack baker. He also helped me with the laying of the gun and glass work. They have a adjustable trigger and a smooth bolt after it is broken in appropriately. some have a cut down stock for youth and a bloob tube installed (false barrel over a shorter barrel to meet legal req length). The 28" bull barrel and stock adds a lot to the 12ish pound rifle. These can be had from the cmp for $225 now with out sights...
