Finally got back on the boards since Cetmerifles.com closed down. I've since been working with SolidWorks, and started designing a few custom parts for my CETME. A buddy of mine has access to a full machineshop and can transfer my files to be CNC'd. In any event, here is one of my first projects: in this drawing it shows everything as one piece but in reality the front piece as well as the picantinny rail will attatch via screws. Tell me what you think!
This is a sideshot of my first version sans the rail:

as you can tell, i like oval shaped vents :)

Hopefully ill have a picture up soon of my first prototype. There will most likely be some small changes.

Pretty cool, but I just don't like the color :icon_wink:
Full access to a machine shop? And you aren't churning out CETME followers and floorplates?

Woodman, the setup for stamping the floorplates would take a fortune to make up the cost on. I would guess it might be cheaper to make injection molds for plastic than those for stamping complex metal shapes.
That said this is a nice idea for grips, what is the desired material, aluminum or thermoplastic?

+1 on the need for floorplates and followers.
Personally I'm not a big fan of the tactical rails because they MAY chew up you non-firing hand in a traditional shooting position. What about "short rails" at the 9:oclock and 3 oclock position for laser pointers er, um sites, and surefire lights?
/No seriously.
---Stamping floorplates, if the demand (cost) is highenough they could be milled from billit. (not so much a statement as a question)

Woodman: I changed the color in solidworks to black... it does look much better :) Also, I can't really "churn out" anything because my buddy just works at the machineshop, he doesnt own it. So for me to be making quantity production runs of anything would not be possible.
okie shooter: I think the prototype will be aluminum. That being said some areas could be thinned out a bit, but ill save that for after the prototype. And if I like the grip enough I might see if I can have it made out of thermoplastic or some sort of polymer.
tanstaa: I've never really liked the rails on the sides. Personally never had a use for them, at least on a long rifle like the CETME. I could see having some tactical attatchments on the sides of say an MP5 or something but all I really want is a vertical handle and perhaps a bipod. But if not I could always remove the rail or i'm a big fan of those grip peices that fit onto the rails.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll post some updates later.

Pretty cool Sil !

Sil80, Looking at that if you made that out of three peices(or maybe even two, the stock could be cut out of tubeing, and the fore end out of stock and welded in) and welded it together it might be a lot cheaper to manufacture.
BTW what 3d modeler are you useing.
Oops you said solidworks, oh fun fun welcome to the club on working in that.

That is pretty cool lookin. Whats it made ot of? Will it aid in cooling besides just looking cool? I had to put the wood fore end back on mine cause the plastic got so damn hot.(i like rapid fire)

I've never used solidworks. I'm using Unigraphics right now for a project I'm working on. Once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad.

Thanks for all the feedback so far. I've updated it a bit, still not finished but the rail is broken down into a separate peice attatched via screws through the grip. I also extended the rail and cut arches to remove some weight and unecisary material.... Oh and I changed the color to make it look purtier :)

How about a PSG1 forearm for a g3 kit that is free floating for a 30 inch barrel with a rail on the bottom!:052:

Nice Sil I'd buy one!

I'd hope it would aid in cooling. RPM: are you talking about making a grip that looks like the PSG1 grip but with a rail on the bottom? cuz you can buy universal rails and im sure it could be fastened to a PSG1 grip. Also, I don't think I understand the idea of "free floating" if someone wouldn't mind explaining that one.

Doesn't touch the barrel anywhere and connects to the cocking tube. Would not have to have a rail! The forearm mounts to the longer trunion I believe!

You might want to explore 2.5" Aluminum antenna tubeing for the side pieces????
