Anyone have one of these?

Know anything about them?

If it works as it is shown, this sounds like the perfect "go to" gun safe for homes with little hands. $400 is a CHEAP insurance policy..

Looks good. I have seen bio devices on keyboards to secure your computer that have gotten good reviews, and they use bio pads at the VA to gain access to various rooms, so they must be working. I think it would be good to have with little ones running around for sure. I've even seen them on full-sized safes, so I would think by that you should be OK so long as you get it mounted securely.

Well, there is an interesting story about that stuff. My parent company Siemens sells biometric scanners, but for some reason, will not use them for their own office computer security. Makes you wonder.

For a gun safe, most likely no worries.

As far as I know, even the top commercial biometric scanners are rather easy to defeat. Myth Busters went through several of the most expensive biometric scanners using a fingerprint lifted with a gummy bear, if I remember correctly.

I'd recommend to stick with tried and true.

I can't speak with certainty about the biometric safes. In a facility where I used to work we used index finger scanners + numeric keypad (4 digit pin). to prevent the mythbusters style bypass.

When buying a safe there are many things to consider, is you intent to protect your valuables from theives (amature Highschool kids looking for dope money, or semi-professional burglars, or professionals - which very little will stop). Are you trying to protect your valuables from fire, humidity. Or are you trying to protect your firearms from yourself (ie kids, guests in the house)

My reccomendation is that if you are going to keep a self defense firearm in a locked container you must have something to alert you to an intrusion and a barrier that will delay a BG while you access your firearm. Alto of people say a dog will wake them up in an emergency but I cannot tell you the number of times the dog has barked during the night and all I have done is pulled a pillow over my head and said "Hush, hush, quit barking I'm trying to sleep". Because deer cross my gravel driveway at night I have reached the point where I ignore the dog.

Anyway back to the biometric safe. Yes it will work, besure to test it thoroughly to see just exactly how much pressure and placement effect the unlocking mechanism, find out how to open it if the batteries are dead. Will you have enough time from someone kicking the front door, to open the safe normally or with the dead battery method? Do you sleep with the bedroom door locked.

(As a side note if you home alarm system has a loud audible alarm, most BG's will turn and run...Look at crime statistics although daylight larcenies are very common amny breakins also happen with the homeowner asleep in bed and the crime isn't noticied until the next morning when you go to the living room to watch the morning news on the TV that isn't there anymore.)

if i were a burglar, and really wanted in that safe, and didnt have any gummy bears handy, id just chop off your finger if you refused to open it :D

I would say stick with old tech...what happens if the power goes out and the batteries die?!?!:744:

There is also the cost. A decent pistol vault can be had for around $60.00.

Well, you either gotta keep everything wiped free of prints, or keep your gummy bears in the safe too.:icon_sad:
