hello all..
i have a complete flat top 20" upper and a complete A2 upper with a 16" barrel. i would like to swap the barrels so i have a 16" lightweight flat top upper and an 20" A2 upper. I did find the post a few weeks back and it does look simple, im getting the tool and the receiver blocks tomorrow. my question is what should i do with the bolt and carrier? should i keep JUST the bolts together with their respective barrels, and keep the carriers with the mated uppers, essentialy swapping the bolts in the carriers, or should i just change the whole works-the whole bolt/carrier group to match the barrel and not worry about the upper at all? I wouldnt even bother, but i want an eotech and i was never crazy about the removable carry handle/sight system either. I have a tendancy to over-complicate things and stress over stupid things alot....this doesnt seem to be an exception either :-( from what i have seen in ohter places, it isnt all that big a deal anyway. the only other thing i found was that if you do swap the bolts with the barrels, the locking lugs on the bolt and barrel tend to wear out faster. i guess it is because the bolts lugs become lapped to the barrels lugs after a few hundred rounds and if you swap them, they wear faster. even if that is so, what are we talking....wearing out at like 8000 rounds instead of 10,000 rounds...i think i can live with that.

what kind of results have you guys(girls) had?
thanks
lou

I'm not sure it would wear any faster either way but i would keep the BCG with the barrel it's used on and you shouldn't have any problems.

Atleast keep the bolt with the barrel. If you can swap the whole assembly, because you sound like you may continue to worry about it if you don't.
