I have a desert eagle 357 XIX. I started out shooting 158gr Magtech SJHP and realized that the lead fouling caused all my jamming problems and bought some Blazer 158gr JHP and tried it yesterday. It only allowed the first shot but would not pick up and chamber a second round no matter what. I had to re-slide every time to chamber a new round. This happened trying three different magazines. I have since read that Blazer is low-ball ammo anyway especially in a great pistol such as the desert eagle or highpower!
I ordered some Black Hills 158gr JHP and am hoping for the best!
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!
At least I have an SP 101 to shoot up all the other stuff :)
Thanks,
Dan

well, my .44 was a single shot also when i first bought it. i had to send mine back and 2 months later when i finally got it back and they had replaced everything but the frame and fire control group...even one of the magazines :-( i found that i have to shoot a totally fmj, projectile, no exposed lead, because the lead builds up on the top of the chamber when a round is jammed into it causing it not to chamber properly. with the FMJ's it is flawless. my pet load is h110 and a 240g hornandy xtp hollow points, and its perfect, nice big boom and flash :-). as for the hot loading, i am only loaded a little over starting gr and it cycles perfectly, so as for low power loads, i think you will be ok. Hopefully, its just ammo and wont need service. clean the chamber REALLY good and find some fmj ammo and see if it feeds better. if not, it may have to go back...
it was like 1200.00, not a cheap weapon....you have NO IDEA how angry i was the first time i shot it and found out it was a single shot handgun.

Where ya located?
I had a .44/.50, worked with it a bit. Usually the issue is either the shooter, lead fouling, or magazine feed lips.

Thanks guys,
I did finally think of going to the website and found this: Magnum Research, Inc.
Click on FAQs' and then how to shoot!
Gonna go out in the arroyo and give it a whirl with both the type rounds I have now!

Good luck, let us know how it turns out. They are a fun beast, and always draw a nice crowd @ the range.

Well,
I found that I was actually "limp wristing" in the past so that made sense to me!
I went out and shot 3 mags of 9 rounds each of Magtech 158gr. SJSP while keeping my arms outstretched and locked and sure enough, I had no jams or short-locks what so ever. I hope thats a good sign :)
I never could go one full magazine before!
Tried the Blazer but no go :( Had to cycle manually EACH time!

I tore down all my mags and thoroughly cleaned them today. The previous owner oiled the guts which of course made them dirt magnets!
I learned long ago back in my army M14 days to have clean un-oiled mags!
Went out today and shot a whole 50 rnds without any hiccups whatsoever.
I absolutely love this weapon now :)

Congrats mate, just remember that if you shoot reloads, dont shoot cast lead bullets.
