What is the band that is just behind the muzzle threads for on the G3 and CETME for?

The 2 rings against the triple frame? They are for rifle grenades.

No, I mean the band at the end of the barrel.
When you remove the flash hider/muzzle brake on either the G3 or CETME there is a band. The CETME is smooth and the G3 has groves on it.

The grooves on the G3 are for timing the flash hider. There is a detent spring in the FH that sets into the grooves. I have heard that the slot in the front of the FH is for shooting barbed wire in half. The band you are talking about on the Cetme barrel is so Century can thread it with a screwed up 9/16 thread after they cut the barrel off with a hack saw!
