I found this Helmet in Baumholder Germany where I lived as a kid . I think it was 1971 My buddy James Sessions and I were exploring the woods for things like this when we were digging in a vary old burn pit in a pine needle mess and found this helmet with other old bottles spoons , forks and just JUNK.We would find all kinds of cool stuff in the woods . Does any one know James, tell Him to pm me.I was told its a French helmet, its a Firemens helmet. I have no clue. The town was a German army training camp in the 40s , Then taken over by French and U.S troops.

It might be , but from when? Many wars were fought in that town from Romans and on to WW1 , WW2 . I am going to take it back this summer and donate it to the Baumholder Museum that just got started a few years ago.

Did Rocket Man ever fly over that area? But seriously, it could also be a logging forestry helmet.

seems to be of thin construction with the strengthening ridge on top.

BTW, the sterngthening ridge was a pretty common feature on Anglo-saxon spangenhelms from the pre-migration ade thru the viking age:

Sorry for that...I think it is a 20th c. helmet you have. I was simply stating that the strengthening central ridge on the crown has a long history.

I thought that ridge was to fit the ridge in a Frenchmans head?
