First off, I'm not afilliated with auction in anyway, but I thought it was interesting to say the least.

I understand this an early and rare '49 Russian SKS with a spike bayonet, but this price seems unreal....wow....I had no idea.
I would have thought like $700 might be more like it, but hey what do I know...

that's a real shame. i sold 3-4 of the 1949 sks rifles for under $200 several years ago. i don't have any of them left (1949). i still have some 1950, 51,54, 55. i think i will just hang on to them for a while............:icon_arrow: :spin:

update: i just noticed it had a spike bayonet, mine were all blade bayonets

Ummm, no. Unless gold plated and proven to have been owned by ol' Stalin himself, an SKS should not go for $7K.:BSFlag: Wouldn't it be funny if someone set their max bit for $750 and accidentally pressed the zero one too many times.

I was kinda wondering that myself. The winning bidder doesn't appear to be all that reliable to me.

But if this is for real all I can say is...wow!

tagging this one for someone to come along and tell us why this particular rifle is worth so much... It does have some features Ive never seen on a Russian before... like the takedon lever, and the spike bayo... I wonder if its really worth that much....

and by the way, that guy hit the jackpot! He didnt even know the rifle was worth a thing!

There are a few of those kind of sellers on gb & aa. I found a guy selling an M-1 Garand for $100,000 (Buy It Now), starting bid was $10,000. I asked him if he added too many zeroes. He told me it was the Garand that killed Hitler. I reported him to gunbroker & they stated that they would tell him his starting bid/Buy It Now price was out of line.

Someone here should contact the seller & if he gives a snotty response, report him. People should be held accountable for their actions!

I have a WW2 flare gun from the Memphis Belle. I should sell it for $1,000,000. My luck I'd get caught & arrested for fraud. Maybe I could say it's from the B-24 Lady Be Good...:smartass:

That is why it's so expensive,it was the SKS that killed Eva Braun.

Is that the one that stalin personally used to do it, as he proably did everything like that himself, until those soviets changed all of the good things uncle joe did after his death. :)

I dont think there was a superman according to his own history books better than Stalin, until Kim came along.

To me it doesn't look like the seller was trying to do anything fishy. The bidding started at $295, which seems reasonable. You can't tell what the reserve price was, but I can't imagine it was anywhere near $7k. Seems to me like someone really just wanted this gun.

Do what Tanker said and look at the bid history. I am not real impressed with the winning bidder's rating (B4) but the guy that quit at over $7500 had a rating of A+50, so you can't say that he wasn't knowledgeable by the buying record. I hope one of the really knowledgeable SKS experts get on as I just can't believe that this rifle is worth that kind of $$$.

Bidding frenzy maybe?
I just don't get it.

Seller should be extraordinarily happy with himself for a month.

surely it must be some obscurely collectible, super rare piece. maybe only true experts know what makes it so special. even a "bidding frenzy" couldnt possibly make a plain russian SKS worth so much. somebody knows something we dont

I talked to Howie Bearse who is THE GUY on SKS rifles. He said it was a very rare SKS that a lot of collectors need for their Rus collection. Here is a link to a thread about it on Gunboards.

btw... its not THAT collectible... You even see in that thread that the guys who know everything about SKS's dropped out at what they considered well above market value at 1000ish.

49's are cool, but they are just a year, and there wasnt anything else really special about that rifle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------i understand from another board member that the guy that sold the sks tried to email the winner and the email bounced back as no good.

Pulled this off the link to the SKS guys. I have a tendency to believe gun people that are better versed in a certain weapon than I am, and when these guys say they dropped out when the bidding got over the $1K mark, I begin to smell a rat! Might be a scam to get someone tricked into buying the 2nd rifle at way under the first thinking that he can make a quick $$$.

That new 49' SKS is hilarious. "Buy Now" for $10,000, give me a break! :bull:

A Russian SKS that these guys are willing to pay a grand for is pretty special. Howie said that it had all the original markings that are usualy lost in refurbishing.
But no, it was not worth more then a grand . That was why I posted the link to Gunboards to illustrate what knowledgeable collectors thought..

Im with you 100%... they are special, just not 7grand special... MAYBE 1-grand special...

The gunboards link kinda makes me think its a scam... more than likely, there will be a flood of guys trying to sell their 49's now to get that much... dumbasses.

I was going to go $550. I've never paid more than $259 for an SKS, and that was my 68 Albie. Notice both Howie and Yooperj threw in at $1k+.
Yes '49 is the rarest Russian production sks, and that one retained it's original features. I truely believe at the opening, the seller had no idea what he was selling. Especially since he didn't use the date in the description, it was just in the pictures.

I might have two 49's and if they want them for a grand they can have them!

The strange thing about collectors, there are some who will pay anything to complete a series. I know coin collectors who are absolutly nuts, I would never call a gun collector nuts (atleast not without proper cover and concealment) but some people will go to any length, especially if they have more money than sense.

Well, now I have 2 1949 SKS rifles, one with a spike bayo & one with a blade.
All I have invested is $17,350! I'm so bloody rich! HAHAHA!

Not really. I wouldn't pay more than $125 for an SKS. That's just me, though. I really don't think there are many firearms that are worth $7,000. Again, just me.
