CMP Greek Garands

That is also my impression. I am pretty sure my Carbine came from Greece.
The policy of the CMP is no to tell.

You are correct. The article "M1C Research" in the Summer 2008 issue of the Garand Collectors (GCA) Journal started out with this:

"In early December of 2007, the authors spent five days at the Civilian Marksmanship Program headquarters in Anniston, Ala. The specific purpose of the visit was to examine the small lot of M1C Sniper rifles in the 102,000 M1's just returned from Greece."

I would post pictures from the article but I've already drooled all over them...

I did notice that they listed some M1"D" Garands which I take it are the sniper variety. They have not had them when I looked in the past.

They have had Greek return Garands for many ,many years. The M1D's dont have scopes, cheekpads

i am slow to respond ,and am at work so don't have the journal handy, but the article referred, i think, to M1-Cs, and yes, they looked really nice. i do like that black finish on the metal. but unless i missed them, i have not seen these rifles on the CMP site. and i think, again, don't have the journal, that they were going to go on sale spring 09.

The Garands currently offered by CMP are Greek returns. The M1 Carbines are Italian returns. In general, CMP prices are what Garands of their grades are going for. Unique and rare Garands in unusually good condition may bring more. But if you want what is equivalent to a CMP Service Grade why pay more elswhere? CMP is currently selling service grade Greek returns for $595 to qualified purchasers. Correct grade collectors rifles are going fo close to $1.000. I think that CMP remains The Place to buy Garands and Carbines.

The first batch of carbines were Italian, this latest batch are greek. There are Bavarian Carbines in the works
