I want to add a standard sling mount to the forearm of my CETME. In order to use my standard bipods. Any ideas? TIA

i put a rail on one of my forearms.you can put a bipod, vert grip and any other rail mount dohicky you like. a little sanding with a dremel some jb weld and a couple pop rivets and your good to go. check the thread "the pistol grip for pics of mine and of someone elses. it won't let me repost them here.

gimme a sec to track down pictures.. .all I did was go to walmart and buy some cheapo sling swivels... the one for the front mount had a nut that you could carve out the slightest bit and just throw a bit of glue on it to hold it still... I did have to cut the swivel bolt so that it wouldnt contact the barrel though... it worked perfectly though, and its rock solid now.

stand by for pics.

I need to get some pictures of that stock on the rife in good light... Its more of an OD, but the flash and crappy lighting wash out the color.

Ill probably re-do it one day when/if I ever find some oil based green stain... that on there is water based custom mixed stuff, and it didnt get as deep as I had hoped, but it works fine.

I did this. I drilled out the front bottom rivet hole, threaded it & inserted a heli-coil insert. A lock washer & drop of Loc-tite, now a Harris or Rock Mount bipod will work. Very steady, too. Took about 5 minutes.

See pic in thread called "The pistol grip".

Sweet, thanks marksman, thats kinda what I was thinking. Jfowl how come every time you post a pic it turns into "Man how did you color that stock" LOL. Just kidding brother, thanks for the info.

lol... I guess you're right... I do like for my stuff to be somewhat tastefully different.

but keep in mind that only the G3 woo furniture has those rivets up front to drill and tap... oherwise youll have to "permanently modify" some Cetme wood.

I really like that idea on the G3 wood, but I dont necessarily like drilling a hole in the metal of a cetme... Thats why I just used an existing hole, and put the nut on the back side... th swivels I bought had one that just screws into the buttstock like a wood screw, and the front has a nut with some friction cuts on the outside of it, so it just sets in a bit... hard to describe I guess, but when I pull it off, you cant see any indication that it was installed from the outside, and from the inside, one of the holes just tapers a bit for the nut to be recessed.

Happy Thanksgiving Guys,,,,,
I used some Threaded washers or T-nuts to attach rails & a bipod to my wood foregrip,,, it only took a couple of seconds with my pliers to match the interior curve, and it is easily removable.
I added a full length lower rail for bipod and/or vertgrip with a 2" rail on the side for a tach lite,, the pieces of rail were cut from some leftovers from a Saiga kit,,,, as soon as I get my camera/computer issues resolved I'll post some pics

Ok, i dug up the swivel mount recommended by jfowl from an old forum post:

http://www.sportsmans-depot.com/products/GrovTec-Quick-Detach-Sling-Swivel-Stud.html

So what's the best deal on an inexpensive bipod that will fit this? Is this a universal mount for bipods? For any swivel-mount bipod?

Would this one work:

Althought it doesn't pivot. How useful is that?

Here's what I've done. Attach a sling swivel stud in the existing vent hole & attach a Shooter's Ridge bipod. Easy, sturdy & inexpensive. No drilling required.

Thanks - looks like I'll be going with this:

SilverBear-That's what I did. I went to Academy Sports and got a cheap Uncle Mikes threaded sling stud set and the Stooters Ridge bi-pod. Works good too.

So to sum everything up and close this out, I will need this:
http://www.amazon.com/GrovTec-Quick-Detach-Sling-Swivel-Stud/dp/B003M4U06K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1322272827&sr=8-4
or this (seems like a better deal)
http://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Mikes-Screws-Screw-2520-0/dp/B002SCZ62K/ref=pd_luc_sbs_02_02_t_lh

Which will allow me to mount this:

Sorry I didn't get back sooner, but what I bought I believe was this exact kit... http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Company-Swivel-1-Inch-Hardware/dp/B000VYQAZE/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sg_1

I used the 2 course thread studs for a different rifle and used the one with fine threads and the nut on the Cetme. I recessed one of the existing holes in the forend and cut the bolt to length so that nothing would intrude into the barrel and I would have to drill a new hole or risk stripping the wood with the course thread ones.

Maybe you can find just the one stud with fine threads and the nut. Mine was more of an afterthought because I bought the kit to do a different rifle and realized I could use the leftover swivel for the Cetme.

And I like the Shooter's Ridge bipod. I have the exact one you pictured sitting in a drawer in the gun room. If you want to save another $10 or so, I'll sell it for $30 shipped, if not, I'll just hold onto it until I have a rifle in need of a bipod.

Why the fine threads? why does that matter?

Hmm, amazone will give it to me for 37 shipped and its brand new - how about 20?
