I'm working three build projects at once. Two G3s, a FMP clone and a beat up Rhodie, and a CETME. All on JLD/PTR receivers.
I watched a LOT of racing over the weekend, Formula1, ChampCar and two taxi series! And I sat of my floor and demilled all three kits while watching. What a mess! I even had drop cloths out.:lol3: :toothless: I'm still blowing black dust out of my nose:doc:
Some of the things I noticed;
On the JLD receivers both G3 trunion's lined up with the barrel pin holes perfect, but on the CETME trunion the barrel pin sits further back by about 1/3rd of the hole. So that'll have to get worked on.
Three different cocking tubes. The Rhodie has the old straight tube, the FMP has the tapered tube with the real small front.(now I wonder if the bayonet lug plug will fit??:confused:) And the CETME.
The weld's arrangement were different. The G3 cocking tubes have one spot weld on each side and across the front of the receiver, the CETME had three spot welds down each side, two along the top and across the front of the receiver. The G3 trunions have two spots welds on each side along the front, top and bottom. The CETME has four spot welds on each side, top and bottom along the front and in the back, above and below the rail cut. All the trunions were also welded in the back, at the front end of the rails, but the Rhodie really had the weld gobb'd on there.:062:
The Dremel tool got a work out, I went through more than a whole stack of cut of wheels and a grinding wheel. And I got some WECSOG points, two cuts and a serious gouge out of my left thumbnail. :1087:

Sounds like you got them all prepped Lon. I should have bought some G3 kits when they were a dime a dozen out there....i'll regret that one for sure.

I see you got some WECSOG points, but I didn't know it was possib le to build guns and not bleed? :)

Somehow, that seems to be inevitable.:toothless: The gouge in my thumbnail feels kind of weird, I had to sand down the edges of the trough to smooth out the snags. It'll grow out in a couple of weeks.
I forgot to mention that I also cut the G3 rear sight base off the one PTR receiver, to change to the CETME rear sight.
And I found a thick coat of metal dust, and some static electricity, on the screen of the :tv:
