down in the 7th paragraph, there's a video link "(Watch how quickly these guns can be fired, reloaded)"
well... turns out CNN did an awesome job at explaining how pistols work...
"so if you have 15 shots in this clip and one in the magazine, how quickly can you shoot..."
wow....

Except for some terminology being off cue the rest of the info, unfortunately, is accurate.
Like I mentioned in another post the anti-gunners will use this situation against us to their fullest. This is one I see them NOT letting go of.

They fear that which they do not understand. It's ok, it's normal for sheep to do that.

ehh, well i don't know, 9mm's are popular cause it's a good cartraige and it's cheap, and that's probably why it's got such high statistics on the crime stats...
same thing for .38 specials in the 20's
and swords in ancienct china.

i think its popular cause the magazines hold more than a standard .45 acp
that, and the glock, AND beretta are glorified in alot of action movies
that and rappers love to sing about there 9 - never heard too many talk about there 1911 government 45 :D

That's ok...the 9mm doesn't frighten me as much as the "22 Millimeter" MSNBC said he used.
These people are nothing but sheep. Sheep are stupid. I have nearly ceased being surprised by idiotic commentary by under-educated liberal arts majors.

I think the biggest thing that brought the 9mm to popularity in this country is the fact that the US army finally adopted the nato standard ammo for its pistol, thus forceing the ammo makers to make the stuff enmass, then it seemed every police department adopted a double stack 9mm. In the early eighties the stuff was not hard to get, but not cheap either. I have never paid less for 9mm than was paying a year or two ago, before the prices went up on all ammo. Heck every walmart selling ammo still has the bulk boxes for far less than when I got my Taraus in the late eighties.
BTW the brady group is already all over the news as new laws could have prevented this, but mentioned nothing specific in what they would like to see that would have helped. Interesting the guy mentioned the high cap ban, the awb, and waiting peroids, the only thing that might have had effect here would have been to ban high cap mags, thus the guy would have had to reload more.

Then I'm proud to be counted among the wolves.
"swords in ancienct china"
-->Actually, the spear was cheap to produce and more prevalent...less steel, less work, less time to produce, better reach. War-wise, Spears historically have been used more than swords in all countries and times that saw the spear and sword in use at the same time.
"ban high cap mags, thus the guy would have had to reload more."
-->And that woulda slowed him doan a few SECONDS since he was unopposed, and made little diff in the end.
BTW, this kinda slaying does NOT happen in Israel, where anyone has ready access to firearm, private and stat-owned.

Personally I think that people favor the 9mm for the same reason that they favor the 5.56, lower recoil.
It is easy for a gangsta to shoot off his 9mm and look tough doing it, but put a .45 in his hand, and he would have to learn to handle the recoil, and actually AIM the damned thing.

I think it's popular cause it's an all around effective and efficient round. Big enough to get the job done and small enough for better Mag capacity. (I know all the .45 guys are gonna jump all over me:icon_wink: ) but it's like my grandad used to say "the differance between getting shot by a 9mm and a .45 is like the difference in getting hit by a chevy sedan and getting hit by a pick up truck...you're screwed either way." And we all know "knockdown power" or "stopping power" is a myth. I'll take my 9mm anyday! And I won't feel inadiquate in the least. Just my .03 cents:rantmeter:

I can't decide wetyher I want to talk about the original post, the popularity of the 9mm thread jack, or the 9mm ~vs~ .45 thread jack I I'll just say that I like cheese.
Nah, I can't do that.
Thread Jack #1 - IMHO, The 9mm became a part of "pop culture" when it was adopted by the military....Follow my logic, the military adopts it, production spin up in the civilian market because of new interest, before you know it 9mm is the new saturn (45 being a chevy/ford)
Thread Jack #2 - The strength of the 9mm is is its magazine capacity. The strength of the .45 is its delivered energy.

So tanstaafl4y, could threadjack answers # 1 and two also apply to 556 vs. 762?:ninja:

I didn't intend to hijack the thread. I was just stating why I think 9mm is popular... oh and  just poking fun at the .45 guys who I have nothing against!

Well it comes down to the fact that a full magazine of 9mm has virtually no stopping power, while simply firing a 45 in the general direction of a perp juiced up on crank and meth will PUT HIM DOWN!!!

They couldn't get it right without misquoting an expert by putting a sensational SPIN on it anway! :boohoo:
They are right! We need more gun laws. And less anti gun laws.
Like every one over the age of 18 must carry a loaded firearm, and be proficient at using it.
They must teach proper use and care at school.
Starting at kindergarden. They must pound in firearm safty.
This will never happen, but if it did, almost all accidental shooting would stop.
Crime will be atleast cut in half, but probly closer to 90percent.

As far as everyone carrying.
I've seen too many that have drivers license that shouldn't have, the way they operate a motor vehicle, I'd hate to see them with a loaded weapon.
Unless they were like Barney Fife and no bullets. Then the lowlifes would have to guess who had ammunition.
