Anybody remember the 308 ammo that Norinco made? I found a can of ammo that I had in a closet and it has that copper washed steel cased 308. I think I bought it during the last gun scare. Has anybody run it through their CETME? Any good?

If it's like the 7.62x39 copper washed stuff it works OK, but it's corrosive.

So basically, if your gonna shoot it, clean the rifle as soon as your done whether you have a weapon that has a chrome-lined barrel/chamber or not......

Con, there used to be quite a bit of the Chinese 7.62x51 (308) floating around, and yes it is mildly corrosive.
Warm soapy water immediately upon returning from the range neutralizes and removes the salts (petroleum based solvents are ineffective). I have heard of people using ammonia/water mixes such as window cleaner to good effect, but have no first hand experience with this concoction

Here's some 762X39 that I have in the back of the closet. I know the box says NON-CORROSIVE but I don't believe it.
Is this the same as the .308?
I keep a few cases of this in the back for WTSHTF - I figure I won't be that worried about cleaning if I get down to those cases...

I shot about 100 rounds of that 7.62x39 the other day, about 10 of them sounded weak and barely cycled the gun. I bought it in 1987 when I purchased my first SKS for $89 and kept it in thecloset in a plastic box.

I have some Norinco made 7.62x51 ammo that is in a dark green box, it is a copper or bronze color and the box says Non-Corrosive. Of course it is probably at least 15 years old.

Rep, although the ammo said it was non-corrosive, the general consensus is it is mildly corrisive. They stopped importing it in 1994 into the US, although it remains plentiful in Canada.

I have some 7.62x39 norinco stuff, still around, but the most unique stuff chinese I have is .223 nornico, brass cased, boxer primed stuff.
I met a dealer in the eighties that was just running the brass cased norinco .223 ammo down range and having a good time at the rifle range, they were shooting up ammo in their ar's as fast as they could, ripping targets. I asked him at a gun show later in the year, and he said the ammo was so cheap, wholesale, he could shoot it up and sell the brass and "he said" shoot for free.
