While looking for an SVT, I have seen some w/ purple bolts and others w/ original bolts. I know that the "purple" bolt was put in when the rifles were arsenal refinished. I would think that the purple rifles would be the better shooters since they have seen some recent TLC at the arsenal, while the older bolt rifles might be better as collectors...is my thinking correct? Also, I have seen some w/ two hole muzzle breaks and others w/ multiple hole breaks. What is the deal w/the two designs and which one was more prevalent during WWII? Thanks.

I think its the same bolt, only the arsenals blued the bolts, which came out purple. If I'm wrong, Im sure someone will correct me.

My muzzle break has slots on my SVT.

Tread Head, I sent you a PM.

Same bolts, purple one would be arsenal refinished. Can't say if one is better than another, check it out like you would any used rifle.

Purple? I believe we like to use the term Plum:hide1: .

I think that the bolt in the white would only make it worth more if the rifle had all of the early features.

I've noticed the plum color on some RC K98 bolts and extractors too....not sure who applied it the Germans or the Ruskies.
