I am new to the forum and I had a few questions. I tried to search for some answers but there is so much stuff to sort through. I have not fired her in a while but I have a question or two about my Century Arms Cetme…
First, you can’t baby the bolt forward can you? You just smack the sucker and go? I first tried to slowly chamber a round and the round just fell out the ejection port. I tried again; same thing. Normal?
I had chance to go out a fire about 40 rounds and upon inspection of the brass I noticed a striping effect on the casings. I just grabbed some surplus ammo I had sitting around (some bootleg Norinco China Sports 147 gr. Fmj). She tore right through them. The stripes are equidistant and run down nearly from top to bottom. Is this normal? What sort of thing causes this? Bad Ammo?
Sorry to bother you guys with some “newb” questions…Your info is appreciated…

Yes, slap the lever and let it fly. Easing it will do exactly what it did.
Yes, the striping is the residue collecting on the case from the flutes in the chamber, and is normal. The flutes (vertical grooves cut into the chamber) aid in extraction, allowing the case to be 'floated' out of the chamber on a nice gas cushion after the round is fired.
And yes, welcome to the board.

Be prepared for some random "range know-it-all to come running with a spent case from your rifle screaming don't shoot that again, look at these wierd marks on the case. It's a CETME it's going to blow!!!" Just tell him its 'sposed to look like that.
Be prepared, CETME haters are everywhere.

Yup, first time I took my Cetme to the range! One guy, who knew little about the rifle, came up and kept bothering me about my rifle. Told me it was junk, it would jam up, and the roller system was worthless. Then proceded to tell me all about his FAL (not that I don't like the FAL, wouldn't mine having one myself). sigh...

Yup, those guys are everywhere. You just need to tell them if a responsible person would've reassembled your Spanish parts kit, CETME would not have a bad reputation. CETME's are fine, ultra reliable Spanish weapons, but when put into the hands of blind monkeys employed by Century, things WILL go wrong.

Another thing I noticed was how far it tossed the brass. It regularly would eject the casings about 10 yards...

I am not sure about the round falling out the ejection port by slowly releasing the bolt from the lock. I have always given the handle a slap downward and that allows the spring to close the bolt tightly and lock it forward. I am a newb too, so I am sure some of the pro's here could explain this in better detail.

10 yards is generally a good thing. Anywhere from 10 to 30 feet is average, at 1 to 2 0' clock.

Yeah, the "striped" brass was a hit at the range - plus, they couldn't help noticing it since I was flinging it 3 stations down - hahaha
I kept apologizing as it bounced off them, but they all loved the "sound" of it - they said keep shooting!!! hahaha
I think next time I'll try to grab the far right side...
CETME rulz!!!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am glad to know that my rifle is not "one of a kind".

when you see those "stripes" start to disappear is when youll have problems... just make sure to keep those flutes clean, and pay close attention to them when cleaning after range sessions... those flutes are the key to the Cetme working reliably, as they allow gas to get around the case, and keep it from sticking in the chamber... kind of a buffer of air that "floats" the case outta the chamber. When they get dirty, no gas can float anything, and the case will get stuck.
Perro even had a video that he took out the extractor, and just from those flutes, the cases would float out and eject every time. when they are clean, they work perfectly.

oh and the only complaints I get when shooting is no one will be to the side of me since the loudener creates quite a concussion out to the sides.
but I dont shoot at a range, so I dont have that "know-it-all" to tell me how horrible my stuff is... everyone I shoot with has shot my rifles, and knows that they are FREAKIN SWEET!

Had my CETME eject brass THROUGH a vinyl patio umbrella. I noticed little dots of sunlight on the bench, looked up....holes!

Don't ride the cocking handle, it requires some force to lock the bolt. You guys are doing it right, just slap the bolt and let it fly.
It sounds like you both got good ones. Good ejection, good flute marks on the shells.
Shoot them!

Glad to see some new CETME owners there, and even better to see you are not having troubles.
Standard warnings though, check the bolt gap, and make sure that the bolt is not ground.
Cleaning the flutes is easy with a .45 cleaning brush.
