Got 1k rounds of Aussie .303 my dad is pulling down for the bullets as the general consensus on this ammo is its just bad. How does one handle the Cordite then for short term storage? also whats a good way to get the cardboard over power wad out?

When I pulled the few boxes I had down I just used a screw and pick. Cordite got made into bottle rockets then. But this is 1K rounds we are pulling down here.

i dont know of a quicker way than what you did before.... i took 1k rounds of Paki crap that had cordite to my reloader guy and he pulled the bullets and told me to get teh cordite out for him..

took a pair of hemostats and pulled the card board out along with a couple of strands and then the rest will fall out...

it makes a nice little fire after you get a pile of it. :-)

oh wear some gloves as the stuff in the cordite is poisonous.....

I dunno what else I could use the cordite for other than fireworks. This time we have enough to store it and use it down the road if needed/ if an application other than 4th of july ohhhs and ahhs comes along. I'm wondering what it can be stored in if my dad should treat it like just regular smokeless powder.

The 58% nitroglycerine by weight has me slightly worried as it does break down over time and this stuff is already older than me.

Sorry to digress, but the discussion of cordite reminded me of a book.
The Day of the Jacakal by Fredrick Forsyth. Most of you know about it but you must read it. Anyways, the main character eats some cordite to get him sick so he could sneak past some guards on his way to kill De Gaulle.

most of my cordite was drying out but once lit it burned quite nicely.... lol

ya gotta remember that if you just light a rounds worth of cordite on the ground it jsut burns up nicely... it has no pressure build up like in a chambered round.

but yeah with a good size pile of it you could have some fun.

There shouldnt be anything in cordite that would do that, the nitro, will actually open blood vesels up, thus in you head you get a nitro headache, as the veins dont open up as quick thus blood pressure fluxuations.
