hey guys
the shooting club here at Baylor U is training people for 3 gun comps!
anyone know of any 3 gun shoots in texas that will be worth our while? i wish we were in shape for the tiger valley one, but we weren't, so we didn't go compete in that one yet, but let me know if there are any around!
also, what are the longest carbine distances do you think? i'm trying to gauge on which gun I should use in the next comp. M4's are standard but i've also got the option of FAL or AK. I like shooting iron sights.
have a great day!

Three gun match? .22, any centerfire pistol caliber .32 and larger, and .45. Most shooters go with .22, .45 and .45 using the same pistol for the last two parts. I prefer to shoot .22, .38 spl and .45 but that's because the .38 gets peeved if it's left in the gun box.

I would like to get into that once I get to TX. I thought of using my PTR but holy cow the recoil for follow up shots would be huge compared to M4gery. XD(M) .40 is anxious to give it a whirl. GSG-5 maybe??

Depending on the yardage your M4 should be fine, I've shot mine out to 250 yrds easy. For pistol i use a 45 and shotty a Mossberg 590 which i have to borrow cause i haven't bought on yet. I was in one last year and loved it, Didn't do real good but loved it none the less.

Henry I shoot USPSA 3 gun matches all the time. Go to the USPSA web site look at the region you are in and you will find matches all over TX. As for distance and what guns, I use my cetme all the time anymore. I shoot open sites and it amazes people I shoot with how accurate and quick a gun it is even when moving through shoot houses and obstacles. I have one of Jfowls slings for it and it makes it a rock solid shooting platform. I know its expensive to shoot but when your ranges are anywhere from 3 yards to 150 yards(our Range) it is a great paltform. Let me know if you can't access the site and I will look there to get you some info!!!

12Charlie, I bought a XDm 40 for my daughter to shoot in matches and I liked it so much I have retired my Tricked out Para-Ord P14-45 limited and shoot the Xdm excluesively. I think you will like it. You will be surprised just how quick a follow up shot you can make with your PTR. Have you had a trigger job done on it by Bill yet?? Huge difference!!!

Negative on a trigger job. Antique Sniper worked on it while I was in Ft. Benning (reciever was bent he said, I got it as a "parts gun" for $731 on gunbroker). Now it emphasises the P in PTR.

I don't think you can use .22's as your primary rifle
but i'm toying around with the idea of using my FAL's. Is there a power factor for rifles? Say, if you shoot .308 is that scored major or soemthing?
I havent' ruled the .223's out yet, but i'm just thinking about using the FAL's b/c i love them so much

Henry in USPSA matches .223 does not make major in the power factor. your FAL will make major no problem. And you will find it fun in the matches.

are most matches uspsa sanctioned? because it'd kind of be a waste for me using a FAL if the club didn't go by major/minor/power factor rules
