Hi, folks.

I owe everyone here an apology, but I specifically owe a direct apology to FleischPfeife for the comments I made about his rifle in the thread below. Sometimes I let my emotions get the better of me and rather than simply choosing to ignore a post involving something I may disagree with, I choose to instead post my comments knowing full well that the original poster (and anyone reading for that matter) may not be appreciative of those comments. I want to apologize for not using my filter - this is something I will strive to work on.

FleischPfeife, I'm sorry for being an ass-hat. It may be hard to believe, but I'm actually a really nice guy. Really. You and I clearly disagree about how to take care of our milsurps, but that doesn't mean I should be a jerk about it. I would have been none-to-happy if you had posted something like that in one of my threads, so I should not have done so in yours.

All, I regret my actions and do hope you can see fit to forgive me. And I will indeed strive to be a better member of this community going forward.

Regards,

~ Greg ~

Believe it or not, but there have been a couple times when I said something I wish I hadn't too. Good for you.

It can be easy to go off the deep end a bit when you are passionate about something. I think that anybody that comes to know you, would understand that you meant no harm. My experience with you over the years is that you have always been among the first to try to help out other members. Your apology here, continues to show that you are a man of conscience, and a good member of any forum.

I think you should come up with some kind of self imposed punishment for yourself! If you like I am sure we could help you come up with something  Maybe we could even take one of those polls to see what it should be!
Whadda-Ya Think?

No help needed, Steve. But... uh... thanks for the kind offer. :D

For the most part I get pretty scalded about "bubba" destroying a genuine collector grade firearms, but in this case the rifle was nearly a basket case. Now if there was some provenance attached to rifle that proved it was used by Hungarian freedom fighters in the 1956 rebellion, I might have toasted FleishPfeife right along with Ptrthgr8. There wasn't it was a beat up $50 rifle.
A couple of years ago I bought several of the basket case 1888 Commission rifles from OWS (along with a bunch of other people.) I chose to take the parts and try and make one "good" rifle out of them. It was a bunch of work, but also a bunch of fun. I ended up with a great looking rifle that also shoots pretty darned good too. I resurrected a rusty stack of parts and pieced together several broken stocks to build a good rifle. At the same time I was able to find a complete Commission rifle that was in pretty fair shape, a little surface rust, and coated with years of grime. I cleaned it up, gently removed the rust, cleaned the stock with mineral spirits to remove grime and lubricated it throughly. Other than that I did not touch it. No stock refinishing, no cold blue, no metal polishing. I appreciate both of the rifles for what they are. One a weathered, dinged vetran and the other one a fair representation of what a commission rifle might have looked like 120 years ago. Good on you for apologizing Ptrthgr8!
FleishPfeife your rifle is a beautiful firearm, shoot it proudly!:rockon:

Boy, I'm glad I don't ever type before I think! :crazyeyes2: One of the things I appreciate most about this forum is the civility. You are, however, now obligated to travel to Alaska and buy me a drink for your rudeness!
