Got my CETME SS Receiver from CAI the other day.

I've got the job of removing all the scrap from my parts accomplished. I have now been doing a little test fitting of "stuff" to see how it goes.

Magazine well is a problem but not insurmountable. Magazine release dropped in nicely. I then realized there is no hole for the paddle release parts.

I have seen some builds that appear to use a stock grip assembly with the front pin. It also appears not to be to hard to modify the receiver to allow this.

Can I legally make this modification if I modify the FCG frame so an FA frame cannot be dropped in?

Has anyone here done it and what does it entail?

I'll try to post some photos later this week.

:thanks:

What you are referring to is called a "clipped and pinned" grip frame.

Yoou cannot legally modify the receiver to accept the pinned on grip frame, but you CAN modify the grip frame so that it will fit onto the semi-auot receiver and still LOOK like it is pinned on. This is only for appearances.

This involves grinding or milling out the inside width of the space between the pin hole ears on the grip frame to fit around the shelf on the receiver. You can also cut up the pin for the trigger pack to just leave teh bits at the ends to solder in the holes to make it look like there is a pin holding the whole mess on.

The paddle mag release can be installed, but it is very involved to do it legally, (read the FAQ and sticky posts).

bottom line is that if you drill a hole in the receiver near the trigger pack, you are inviting the BATFE to call it a machine gun.

This is the look you are going for. If you drill the hole in the receiver you have a machinegun in ATF's eyes, just like Rusty said.

Thanks guys. I am actually not concerned with the look, it just seemed as the easy way to make the paddle release work. I don't want to upset the BATFE so I will read the FAQ and then make a decission. May just dump the paddle parts.
