Sorry its taken me so long to get these posted but its been a hectic week to say the least.
Man this thing is was lousy with cosmo. It took me the better part of the weekend to get the majority of it cleaned out. About the only thing I have left to clean now is the barrel but the rifling looks strong and theres no obvious rust. (attached pics 1 & 2)
The bolt face actualy appears to be in really good shape too which suprised me. I had to let it soak in brake cleaner over night to get all the crap out of it and then get to getting rid of the last bit of cosmo down in the bolt body. (really blurry pic 3)
The wire wrapping is in overall good condition but the solder has broken free in a few spots on the rear wrap so its a bit loose. I may resolder it, I may not. Not sure yet. It cleaned up real nice though. (pics 4 & 5)
There was one scary point early on though. I was taking the front barrel band off and it bent in half. Okay, NOW I know that it is hinged. My heart skipped a beat on that one. Needless to say I took disassembly MUCH slower after that.
The only two things which I found obviously wrong with it are managable and easily repaired. First, a small amount of the wood rotted under the front of the trigger guard (where the front screw is). I'l fix this with bedding compound after everything else is done. The other problem was the safety spring was broken and held together with a generous helping of cosmoline. It pretty much fell apart when I unscrewed it to clean the safety components.
Finally, almost more important the new Enfield... my suprise purchase... a nearly full case of Aussie 7.62x51. He has another full case which I will be picking up in a week or so. YAY!!!!!!!
