After talking with another forum member (who has a very interesting job) I thought maybe it would be interesting to see what everyone does or has done for a living. I'll startoff

I am a self employed Flooring Contractor. Installing Harwood, Ceramic, Viynl Floors. Worked for 20 years for a company as a employee and went Self Employed 9 years ago. It was the best move I ever made

We did this a couple of years ago but here goes:
Laser Technician working in the medical field. Punching blind holes in surgical needles with said laser. The feed system is much like a machine gun. Needles are on a belt and a drive pulls them in, cuts, shoots, punches the old out! If you've had surgery, I'll bet 90% of the time the needles were made where I work!

I am a starving oil field heavy hauling truck driver, thanks to CO Gov. Bill Ritter, Omaha and all the other liberal Dem's in government.

Only good thing that came with the reduction in work is I have more time to practice shooting, sell off my unwanted arms and build up the arms I want...
The selling is good right now but the buying sucks as there is not much to buy at this time.

PS: Another thanks to Bill Ritter, he passed the law allows 'men' to go into the woman's rest room/bathroom/shower/changing room (and protects them from being blocked from entry)"IF" they think/wish or act transgendered. Way to go Bill...

Goofy little thing they call Active Guard & Reserve, basically an active duty USAR soldier for about 19 years taking care of reserve units. For the past ten or so years I have been the Training NCO, I have done everything from supply, to recruiting, to a year in Kuwait working redeployments, to my current job with a USAR School battalion where my part time soldiers teach schools 2 weeks at a time for supply. Basically a desk job, but I meet a lot of folks, and the fun never stops. 2014 I am done and will hang it up. 24 years is enough fun. Not a bad job at all, and I have some pretty good soldiers to work with. Best year I had was the year I spent in Kuwait, everyday I came to work another unit was a day closer to going home, real sense of job accomplishment seeing units go home and know I had a small hand in it.

Don't know what I want to do when I grow up...
23 years law enforcement, (administration, investigation and training) Last 8 with domestic terrorism task force. Got burned out and retired early. Went to work for the prison system. Too many "old friends" there, hated it. Went back to school, CSU, licensed water and industrial wastewater treatment guy now, working in the natural gas drilling and production fields in Northwest Colorado doing water treatment and disposal and field operations for natural gas production. Had a few moonlight jobs over the years.

Let's see,
I worked for a tree company for 8 years after I got out of the AF, then I ran a punch press for 10 years.

I worked at GM for 11 years building Trailblazers until they closed the plant and I took the buyout.

I am going to Hobart welding school now and graduate it in July then I can be like Turbothis!!!

I have owned my own tree trimming company for about 5 years now and working it on weekends pays better than GM did for 5 days a week....

Full-time student, majoring in accounting (until I change my mind again!). I honestly don't know what I want to do with my life, my old man suggested something business-related, as that is his line of work.

In the summers, I work as the Assistant Program Director at a Youth Summer Camp Facility/Conference Center. Officially I'm in charge of managing all the recreational facilities and staff. Basically I sit in an office organizing employee schedules, or I ride around on a golf-cart and yell at people over a walkie-talkie. :icon_razz: Not too terribly interesting, nor am I looking to make a career out of it, but it's a fun summer job and it pays well

I retired in 2006 after working for a distributor of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic machine controls. I spent 10 years in sales and 20 years in engineering and management. At the peak of my insanity I managed six divisions of the company. I was lucky enough to be allowed to select and train my sucessors which is what I did for the last two years of my career. It was a rewarding career and very challenging. I had the opportunity to participate in the design and retrofitting of hundreds of pieces of production machinery in almost every industry that you can imagine. Automation of machine tools and production processes was our specialty.

I do a little consulting work and training for some of my old customers just to keep my hand in but the opportunities are dminishing in number as the US manufactring base has been in steep decline for the last ten years.

Now that I am retired I have time to be a grand parent, relax and enjoy my hobbies: sailing, photography and, oh yeah, guns).

The best news is, since I am no longer managing people, I sleep soundly and I never wake up with the days problems haunting the dark hours of my night. Life is good (unless I think about my 401K)

First went to college and became a Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical engineer in 7 years. the market was flooded with people and they started you out at 24,000 a year so I started working on Volvo's for 48,000 on commission at a Volvo only repair shop in Houston, Texas. They sold the shop and I went to work at a dealership as a tech and ended up being service advisor and shop foreman after two years. Did that until I could see they were selling and the new owners were going to replace everyone and moved to Iowa and was service manager at a Mazda/ VW dealer. 6 years
Started buying homes in foreclosure and flipping them before the current crazy crap you see on TV.
Had that and a Pool repair service I got into due to the home remodeling, aircraft rental of my own aircraft, and auto repair all at the same time for ten years. That was hell on earth but didn't need much sleep back in my younger years.
For the last ten I have had my own SCUBA Store and Training Center for recreational, technical, and professional law enforcement training in Iowa.
My competitors used to give me crap about underselling retail and working 7 day weeks teaching, selling gear, repairing gear for annual service, and just being a real thorn in their lazy a_ _! Well, all 5 are gone now in the last five years since I never used hard sell tactics like them and teach SCUBA not market it and waste peoples time!
Now, I just reap the benefits of being honest and hard working like usual and life has settled into just paying bills and looking for employees that actually know how to show up on time if at all and apply the knowledge they get from my teaching them to do equipment repair.
I spend my little idle time snow skiing, shooting and gunsmithing, traveling abroad and stateside running trip for my SCUBA customer doing underwater photo and video. I feed sharks at Stuart Coves Dive South Ocean in Nassau Bahamas when I take people down there. Tech dive the great lakes on shipwrecks to 350 feet. I finally get paid for doing what I love! Been diving and flying since 1969!

Been in technology for my entire career and in various engineering positions (Reliability/Quality/Test) for the last 25 years or so. Actual assignments have been all over the map - applied statistics (SPC and DOE), failure analysis of materials, sensor design, high power RF, and programming in several languages. Started out on this path in the electronics parts stockroom of a small company in the early 1970's and worked my way up the ladder as I got more experience and education. Presently I'm working at a company that makes flow meters for processes that involve moving water and steam.

I've had my own lawn service when I was in high school. Was majoring in Electronics in college but had to drop out due to family and money. Started a used office furniture store specializing in mid-century modern furniture, did that for a few years. Became a constantly traveling cable contractor for a year, Asst Manager of Field Operations. Best paying job I've ever had but required too much travel (LA to GA every other day). Sold guns in Austin, TX for almost a year. Moved back to MS and worked as Asst. Manager of an Advance Auto for two years. Dropped that to be a cell repair technician for Nokia for two years. They ended that job so I wound up at my current job of two years as manager of a car audio shop.

Two years seems to be the magic number for me and jobs. I'm currently looking for something new.
Also about to get started with the local sheriff department as a reserve officer.
