OK, the story is about weapons being sized in Mexico and them finding for the first time an anti-aircraft weapon. However, to me it looks like a Browning 30 cal 1919, tripod mounted MG. It does not look big enough to be a 50 and I thought the 50's had the big profile barrels.

What say you experts.

I know this could have gone into the general discussion section about the raids, but I am much more interested in the ID of the MG, so I put it in the MG section.

OK, I see where they claim it is a 50 cal, but comparing the rounds in one of the pictures to the boxes of ammo???

Quote from the article:

"Cruz said the confiscated .50-caliber, anti-aircraft machine gun can fire 800 rounds per minute and is capable of penetrating armor from more than 5,000 feet (1,500 meters). Police on a routine patrol Monday found the gun fitted atop an SUV at a house in northern Sonora state. "

Note the cool carry strap between the grip and the barrel. Really radical.

WTF?!?!? That is definitely NOT a ".50cal anti-aircraft machine gun". What a bunch of BS. That is clearly a M1919 (or somesuch derivative) .30 cal. :wtfflag:

Well, you know the press is gonna find the biggest dumbass they can to interview so they can get a better story. Been that way for a hundred years.
And yes, that's a 1919 .30 cal. What a bunch of tards.

In other pics there is a .50 cal. Look over to the left on the table.

Then again they did say in the report that hte .50 cal was mounted to an SUV, and is probably not on display here, except in thephotos leaning against the table.

BTW,
I love how these agents allways wear those masks on their faces in these photos.
I guess that they are afraid of retaliation by the gangs if their identities are known.

Also looks like in their logistical planning they figured it's better to have 200+ mags and 1 AK, than 200+ AK's and 1 magazine....

It's also nice to see that they got their helicopter back...

Looking at the muzzle break, the 50 (all the way on the left) looks like one of the bolt guns, unless it is a Barret semi. Hard to tell that far away. Still not an anti-aircraft gun.

Against the table, rifle on the right, it looks like a cut down Enfield No1 Mk 3 or some other bolt gun with a similar buttstock / pistol grip area.

Looks to be a .50 tripod with a .30 just laying on top of it. Sitting on the table is a .50 pintle. So the question is where is the belt fed .50 or was there never one to begin with?

I still think that th 50 is still mounted to the SUV that is in the photos on the floor leaning against the table.

I think you are correct sir; mounted in a pickup bed. That would have been a better background for them than the helo.

Correct me if I am wrong, but that "Grenade Launcher" in the first picture looks like a Cobray FLARE launcher.

After looking at the picture on the left again, I agree, it does look like a 50 is mounted there. To bad they did not use the close up of that picture in the article. So they used the Browning 1919 with the caption for the 50 cal.

It is pretty funny seeing all of those AK mags set out on the floor like they were a big deal or something.

President Barack Obama has promised to do more to stop gun trafficking from the United States to Mexico.

The above is the most telling statement in the whole article. They have known the drug cartels have had heavy weapons for decades including RPGs and machineguns. They've got the money and the connections. So why are they claiming this is the first time they've seized an "anti-aircraft" weapon? That Browning is mounted on a regular tripod. It can't be elevated enough to engage aircraft. This is part of a well orchestrated attack on our liberties. Calls for 50 caliber bans will be made, to place restrictions on firearms inside the US to "comply with UN ban on arms trafficking".

This whole thing is part of a dog & pony show and slanted to stir up the opponents to our liberties

I don't know why, but that was funny.
Hey, I'll take the mags.

Ya, I also think this is just the lowest cop in Mexico got chosen to have HIS drug stash taken for the "team".
I guess in Mexico, they ALL play the drug shell game or their familys are threatened.

Is that an IZZY .8mm?

Geesh guys - truck mounted .50? Look closely at the truck in the left photo - something's there.

There really is a serious problem and it is causing a major threat to our 2nd Amendment rights. That is the fact that there are US Citizens who engage in the illegal smuggling of "EBR"s to Mexico from the SW USA. Guys it really is a big problem; if we ignore it we're not helping the situation.

Does this spark any interest? This is what happens when you enforce tha drug and immigration laws in the good old USof A.
Wasn't there a card to the feds in the druggies wallet? He knew people in Washington and was let GO many times.
Nope, we need to throw them ALL in prison with the RICO satutes.

Ramos and Compean aren't the greatest examples to cite. One of their charges included tampering with the "crime" scene; as well as lying to their chain of command,

Are they innocent or guilty? There's more then a few BP Agents and CBP Officers in jail right now - charged, tried, and convicted. Just because we wear a badge doesn't mean all the officers are clean - altough 99,9% are.
