Sorry to hear it man (pay cut, not the still have a job)
Makes my 5 day mandatory furlough look pretty pale by comparison.
Of course, last summer I asked for a ~60 day furlough and was refused.... mutter, mutter, curse, swear!

How much of a cut did the CEO take?????????
I got a 10% paycut one year when oil was bust. Not long after I saw where the company had made a $15k donation to Ducks Unlimited. WTF! :2pistol:

I was bitching about the hours I was required to work once. My boss said "you should be lucky to have a job." I gave him my 2 week notice and moved north. Little did he know I had been looking.

Not so easy these days.

With nOboma as Pr and a lefty lib. anti-oil Dem Governor of CO, chances of a return to the oil boom is slim pickings. Only chance of survival of my job is if nOboma listens to T. Boone Pickens and makes the change from crude oil to natural gas as the major fuel for this country...
Guess I'll better get a pass port and look over seas for work for the next 4/8 yrs.
as the economy improves, so will demand. Then prices will go up. This is the 3rd bust I've seen.

I'm guessing that the immediate increase in duck mortality rates somewhat offset their donation.

Yep, I'm happy that where I work, in my particular department, we only took a 2% pay cut and we lost a few positions. No one ended up out of work as the people retiring this year made up for it. They just won't refill those positions. Ah, crazy stuff!

I just took a research job in organised labour - it's booming in this climate of economic uncertainty. Putting freelance and academic aspirations on hold for a while.
Good luck to you and all the other oil men here, Landtoy80.

Hewitt Packard announced across the board cuts of 5% for us last month and then said we'd get an additional 10% cut for the month of April.
This came after a Judge ruled that EDS, who I work for and which was bought by HP, owed it's employees $20 million for screwing with our 401Ks.
The problem I have is we are subcontractors ate other companies and our pay is part of the contract.
You know HP is not cutting the rate charged the customer.

ive only been involved in the industry for 2 yrs. I made the mistake of going with a small company for much less pay even though i had some good offers with big pay at companies in houston. Now im looking for a new job but cant seem to find one as they all want 5+ or 10+ years of experience. They are not letting a good crisis go to waste and are using it as an excuse to take everything they can away from us even stuff that in no way cost them any money. I am trying to apply for internships but the people i am applying with are puzzled that i have a job and am applying for an internship that people coming out of school are applying for.
Right now i would even take a job in Midland as i am so pissed off with the company i work for.

The company I work for gave the biggest cuts to the newer workers.
I got an 8% but some of the new got up to 20%.
I am sure the cuts are just a start.
We always stayed at Holiday Inn, Best Western etc. I am now in a National 9 dump. Its a motel 6 with a strange smell (stinky motel smily)
They are not letting a good crisis go to waste and are using it as an excuse to take everything they can away from us even stuff that in no way cost them any money.
.
When companies do things like this, they screw with the loyalty of the employee. I work in the oil industry here in Houston. Word travels fast here and when things boom again, and they will again in a year or two, experienced people will stay clear of these companies. Only the fresh out of school, and the new to the industry will generally work there. I worked for a company that was secretly sold to a mexican national. He quit paying us on-time. This news travelled like wildfire through the industry.

My good news is the corp cut 25% of the workforce, and no new raises! Yay!
Also, my offical promotion to Manager (I was already acting as the manager of the UI Design Team for 3months) didn't happen, but I get to keep doing the role in addition to my other duties, plus the duties of my direct UI Design team reports that got cut!
Oh, and more good news. The busybodies in HR, left with nothing more to do than manage COBRA and unemply pays for the 25%riffed, decided that they're gonna waste our time by doing reviews, even though there will be no raises or promotions attached to them anyhow! And I have all the time in the world for that, what with me doing 4 jobs as it is.
At least when the Tech mkts crashed in 2001, I got used to doing twice the wrk for half the $.
Things are lookin up.:rockon::rockon::rockon::kookaid::kookaid::kook aid:

been there done that , we took a 3% pay cut , then they come back and took another 4% . we also lost our company 410k match , and a bunch of other crap . the real kick in the balls is last year they had record profits and we didn't even get a good raise , well before they took it back anyway!! Around here the big employer is Honda and everyone knows they are slow, so my employer knows they can hack away all they want , at least till cars start selling again . they said everyone wages were cut but I'm sure the higher ups will get the biggest bonuses they have ever seen this year , look at all the money they saved the company by screwing the employee's
