View Full Version : Howdy from the New Guy plus questions! :)
Hello guys,
Guess I need to Introduce myself, I'm an 11B with the 4thID up at Fort Carson and a relatively new owner of a brand new PTR91 and since then I've been obsessing with trying to learn everything about these weapons.
I even went so far as to read all 19 pages of old threads to learn what i can and try to avoid asking familiar questions. This is a great informative website you guys have here and I'm looking forward to being the inquisitive FNG.
When I first got my new rifle I went one with the looks and what not and now I've decided I don't like what I've done... So, I've been pouring over new accessories for my rifle. I want to put a solid stock on it as well as scope it out. (Was looking at the vented wide hand guards with bipod on HK specialist... any opinions?)
My first question is... Can I buy just the plastic portion of the buttstock and reuse the the pinned portion of my folding stock or do I need to buy the entire assembly together?
Second, I've read that the claw mounts are Iffy on clones as far as staying tight on the weapon... Does this remain true on the PTR or should I be okay with going that route?
Third but less important question... Anyone know of a hk21 style club foot stock that doesn't cost $400? :)
Thanks in Advance,
-Drew
Sadly the best picture I have at the moment is of my sister with it when I went home on Easter.

Welcome Drew
On your first question, yes but you need a different buffer(you have a folder now right) the fixed stocks use a buffer in the Buttstock body, why not go out and get a surplus g-3 set that are inexpensive and use that metal/recoil assembly and buffer. Remember if the stock is a us made part though you have to use us made(most generally PTR made but there are others too) to stay in compliance(if the stock is one of the compliance parts to make the rifle legal). I would read up on 922r compliance and what parts were included in the ptr rifles. The other advantage if you get new recoil assembly/stockmount/buffer is you can interchange the stock with pulling two pins and swapping.
Second question, On the PTR's the receiver is generaly considered to be made within spec, its the stamped century ones that are not in spec.
No anwser her on your third question but I am sure some one will pipe in if they know.
I am not the final on any of your questions, there will be other opnions and view points too, but one day I will get to stay at a Holliday Inn Express. :)

Welcome to the forum Drew.
The other guys here have answered your firts two questions pretty much, so I would like to address the third.
Unfortunately, no, I know of no club footed buttstocks for the HK91 style of rifle that costs less than $400. These things are quite expensive.
Of course if you have the wood carving skills to make one yourself, then you would not only have the buttstock you want for the right price, but it would also qualify as a US made compliance part.
You can also check this one out, not quite a HK21 style, but cool.

I thought the ptr series of rifles had plenty of US made parts that you could swap in foreign stocks... theyve got US made EVERYTHING!
barrel, trunnion, receiver, trigger parts, FH, P-grip...
couldnt he spare 1 or 2 parts to replace the furniture?

I'm with jfowl31 here, I thought the PTR's were made on enough USA
made parts that swapping out just about anything was possible.
I also thought that the reciever was dimensionally the same as an HK,
being made on HK tooling, that anything that fit an original would fit
the PTR.
Or should I just :ziped:
Just ordered the PRS buttstock, vented handguards, bipod, Hensoldt Fero z24 scope and mount, Ergo PSG style grip and a carrying handle...
I'm going nuts... I can't wait! Thanks for the info and links guys!

holy crap... that should definitely get you on your way for sure...
I posted in another thread about the Ergo grip... It needs a little work (at least it did for my tastes)... its really soft, and comfortable, and because of the softness of it, you cant tighten anything down without making some backing inside the grip and inside the palm shelf. YMMV.

Here is the list of US made parts on a PTR.
1 Barrel
2 Trunion
3 Hammer
4 sear
5 Trigger
6 Trigger Housing
7 Pistol grip
8 Butt stock
9 Forearm
10 Receiver
Depending on if you upgraded to the Vortex Flash hinder, that may be another. This is the standard. (I called the factory).
So there should be plenty or room for wiggle on German parts. Even removing the butt stock and forearm. They told me they use HK cocking levers, Flash hinders, Bolts and carriers.
Claw mounts work well as long as they are original German HENSOLDT or STANAG mount. They will mar the paint finish. There are cheaper options with built in Weaver rails on them. The German mounts aren't cheap either. The one I've heard some people talking about mounts flush on the top of the receiver and is held in place with tension screws. Watch for knock offs. They are usually made in China. Good material, but will need filing for a good fit. Both the HENSOLDT and STANAG claim after zeroing, you can remove and replace as many times as you want with no more than 1 minute of angle difference. They do lock securely.
If you get a mount, you will need a cheek rest to raise your eye level. RTG sells the best.
