so is a firearm aloud to have a shorter than 16" barrel?
i was wondering about a 1919 clone out of 7.62x25. the barrel would most likely be 10 inches or so, due to whats availible on the market.
it would also have just a pistol grip, no butstock.

If it's a rifle no...unless you get the stamp for a short bbl rifle.

If you got a 1919 receiver transfered as a pistol, that would be a strech though, I guess you could build it if the receiver was virgin. Not sure though if you would want to even try to build a pistol that would be so heavy to carry.

here is the REAL question you must ask yourself
is the 1919 considered a rifle since it is not designed to be fired from the shoulder?? This is a tripod mounted firearm, so do the rules of a rifle still apply?? Many topics covering this on 1919a4.com
your next most important thing to ask yourself with this - will tok pistol ammo recoil that MASSIVE barrel, bolt, and barrel extension, plus overcome the recoil spring?? probably not possible

i was thinking a whole scratch built unit, not a 1919 converted.
do the shorty 1919 have a 16"+ barrel on them?

search 1919a4.com about shortys, i aint about to give advice on it cause many people disagree on the topic
since it has a 1919a6 conversion kit available for it, that does make it shoulder fired, but some think if its in a standard a4 config then its not shoulder fired - its a touchy subject, search 1919a4.com for shorty and make up your own mind.
i can also tell you the way that tippman, and lakeside machine and tool got there guns to fire in 22lr is from the use of much SMALLER scale parts made totally out of aluminum.
