I had thought they were silver soldered like you would a rib.

My first thought would to cut the barrel to length, then figgure out how to heat the barrel stub(rather than the full barrel, less heat sink then) and choke to get it off. It might be easy once you remove the choke to just heat from the inside untill the solder gives way. You will need plenty of heat though since some silver solders go up above 1000 degrees melting points.

Use a hot torch as a small propane won't be hot enough. A small Oxy-acetalene works great because the heat can be concentrated in a smaller area and it heats quicker. There were a few that were threaded and silver soldered as well so don't be suprised if there are threads there.

On torches, MAPP gas might get you there but it might not too. If you have a propane torch all you have to do is get a mapp cylinder to try.

Trump, make sure you take it apart before trying to de-solder it. No sence in heating the parts not soldered to the barrel. Not sure if you knew that you keep twisting and it does come apart I believe.

i had it cut and fitted ,lined up and ready to go. took it to my bro inlaws so him and his uncle(90yrs old) could tack weld it and he burned a hole in it (i'm pissed but not overly) so it will probably be a while till i can spend $100-$120 on a barrel.(got to get a new pump for the pool 1st) now i have a 30" full barrel on it for sh&^s and giggles.:icon_lol:
