Ok so since I chickened out of getting a M1A I thought maybe its time to start shopping around for a 9mm. Glocks are out of the question I've shot my dads 19 and some other size of frames and calibers but for this I would like something with a external hammer and safety. I might get a glock down the road but its just not in the stars for what I want right now. So I narrowed it down to a browning high power and a Beretta 92. Like I said I want a hammer and a safety but With all the high powers I've shot I just don't like the fact they are so muzzle light. Thoughts? pro's con's? I'll mostly be shooting reloads through these as well. And probably a high number of cast bullets. very little factory I think unless I really find a deal. But I'm sitting on so much brass now its justification for a 9mm.

I love my FM High Power! I carry it everyday. Here's a pic.

It's been very reliable. Never had any malfunctions and is a very accurate pistol. The only real downside is the weight. I picked mine up from a friend of a friend FTF for $250 almost new. I know you can pick them up pretty cheap ($350 range). Hope this helped and good luck.

Depends on if you want a SA or DA trigger. I would recommend a CZ75. The 92 seems bulky for the caliber.
Look at a S&W 59 series.... they shoot better than the beretta 92 series.... I shot several hundred rounds through a S&W today at the range, nothing but good things to say about it.

I've owned a taurus beretta clone, and a cz. I keep coming back to the Browning. I just bought a used belgian a couple months ago. This is the forth Browning I have owned, and this one is staying with me. No other pistol feels as good in my hand, and no other full size 9 carries concealed as well. The other pistols were 100% reliable, like the Brownings, but they just didn't fit me as well.
I really don't see the "muzzle-light" problem you mention. This pistol feels lively in my hand, and points quickly, rapid fire is no problem. I have been trying 15-and 20 round MecGar mags in mine, and they work great.
Shooting at the dirt backstop on our clubs pistol range, which seems to be close to 100 yards out, I hit very close to point of aim, definately minute of man if I do my part.

Ok so I'll try and get a Beretta for a day or so and try it out. And compare the feel of them. Then I'll be able to make a choice.

Try shooting a Sig, personal favorite is the P228. Although Browning's HiPower is sure shooter and a real classic.

Good advice, I have the SP-01 and it is a very accurate pistol. The full length dust cover gives it a bit more weight in the muzzle than a stock 75.

I've owned the beretta and taurus and loved both. Both were very accurate and never malfunctioned unless you limp wrist it(you shoot 44, you'll be Ok). The only problem with the berette is hiding one on yourself, they are a little big. I ran 3k rds through mine in a week then cleaned it and it ran like a champ.I'd buy one in a min if I had the money.

I have owned and used Sigs,Brownings,Springfields and Berettas. The best one is the one that fits your hand and the one you feel most comfortable shooting. In my case it is the Beretta 92 and Beretta Cougar 45. Did not like the Beretta Vertec grip angle. Second choice would be either the Browning or a Sig.

This wont be for CCW my 1911 will fill that roll. Wish I could carry my 29 but lets face it. I'm 6' 2" and 145 can't hide much with this build :sterb029:
A good friend of mine has a SIG 226 that I've been hand loading for and it is a nice gun but it just does not feel right in my hands. I have a friend who I'm sure has a CZ and I'll ask to try that out as well. Thanks for the replys it might be a while till I find one for a good price but we'll see. :flamed:

I have both a Taurus(Beretta set up the line to make the pistol for the Brazilian army from the lore) and a Belgum Browning and like both. I don't think you can go wrong with either. In some ways the biggest advantage to the beretta is the open top for ejection, thus you almost never can hang up a case. Just my two cents.

I have always liked the Beretta 92 but untill today never got to shoot one. Little Sis got one and we gave it a workout today. I shot it as well as I do my Glock but still think I would stick with my Glock for self defense. Actually I usually carry my little Kel Tec because it is so easy to carry. I still want a Beretta but not as bad as I used to. Her Beretta in 9mm jumped about the same as my Glock in 40 S&W. I was suprized. I only shot a Sig once and don't know what model but know it was one of the top line ones. I really liked shooting it.

I would say that I love my Beretta M9. I had a 92FS and loved that too. Zero problem gun. That being said, I am sure the Hi Power is a great gun too. The Beretta does have the advantage of being newer (parts), Double action and larger mag cap. Either will be a great gun...
I never like plastic handle guns. However if you get a Sig with an AL or Steel frame... might be worth looking at!

My first handgun was a HiPower. The gunstore owner handed me that and an S&W semi-auto to hold. The S&W was a brick compared to the Browning. Fast forward, the Browning got sold ( a move I still regret ) and I wanted another, but with DA capabilities. Gunshop hands me a CZ75, wishes do come true. But the important advice has already been given: get what feels right in your hand. The Browning and CZ felt like they were made just for me, the S&W felt like it was made by someone who didn't like guns.
