It was too windy to go to the range this morning, so I went to the big gun show at the State Fair Grounds in St.Paul. My intention was to get some SS-109 bullets to reload with and see how they group and some peel washers if they were available. On a whim, I took that Romanian AK I had listed for sale

and a couple of antique revolvers I haven't had any interest in for quite some time and see if I could raise some money for my trip out east next week. In the corner of the showroom floor was a Korean War vet selling some Garands. All were in great shape and prices varied accordingly. I have been considering a Garand for my modest collection and one 1954 (year I was born) H.R. with a nice birch stock really caught my eye. Upon discussing it with him, he wasn't interested in any horse trading unless I had any Garands or related parts. I took the AK out of the hard case, slung it on my shoulder with bayonet and made a trip up and down the tables. Found a barely legal aged fellow interested in the AK in minutes flat and an older gentleman interested in the revolvers. Twenty minutes after first seeing the Garand, I scurried out of the place with it under my arm! :party0045:

I did have just enough money left over to pick up four boxes of HXP M2 ball and one en-bloc clip, but not enough for a sling, though it looks like the one on my M14 will work if need be.
Boy, for going there with low expectations, I emerged with a song in my heart. It's still too windy to appreciate a trip to the range. Hopefully, I'll get out before I leave on my trip. The fellow had TE and WW gauges with him and demonstrated that the TE was 2 and the MW 2 1/2. The birch stock is beautiful, but can be even more beautiful if I choose to refinish it.

All in all a great day for me. Even the misses thought it was handsome.
