Thats a very nice one tanker. Didn't the egyptians have one that was a copy of the SVT, a hakim or hakari it seems like they called it?

ha, i got pulled over for doing 25 in a 30 mph zone. SHE said i gassed it too hard in my old truck. i got pulled over in my front yard and she threatened to tow my truck. women cops get real mad and want revenge around here for some reason. what a joke! southern oregon by the way.

but the price is high. I'm passively on the hunt for some form of autoloading rifle for the 762x54R round..be it SVT, ROMAK III, or ...PKM!
I recently got my second mosin, tho, and enjoy shooting the round in them for now. I got the action smooth as chocolate on my M-44, and gonna do the same for my new 91/30

--Weird. if this is a legit fear, get a Curio and Relic license, and tell them you are a licensed collector. Me, I have some reely old wepons (500+yrs old, oviously not firearms), and I would not surrender them. I thot abt the license of C&R for just such a purpose. Here in IN, i can just say "I'm a collector" and it flies.
Here in IN, I can keep an axe, khukuri, short sword, bayo, and/or bowie knife in my vehicle, and it is not a prob--they consider these tools in the age of firearms.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that is a problem. I never fear the police. Around here they are pretty cool.

I don't have an SVT40, but I want one real bad. One of the coolest C&R's for sure. Someday I'll get one. I drool everytime I look at one.
magikarp...
I think the Egyptians used the FN49 and later the Hakim which was 8mm mauser. I have 3 Hakim's and really like them. I see they are now starting to climb in value also.

I had three at one point. Here's the one I decided to keep. The bore is in great condition. All parts look absolutely new. I am still trying to determine if it had shellac at some point and was sanded...or if it was never shellac-finished in the first place? The cartouches don't have any shellac down in them, so I think it may be one of the ones that they didn't shellac for some reason...

The Hakim was based on the swedish Ljungman, the Hakim was the follow up rifle for their army after the FN-49 in 8mm. They also made a the Rasheed, considered a devlopement of the Hakim(depends on which refereance you read) but in 7.63x39.

I'd like one for its looks, but I don't like shooting them. Harsh. My Garand is a pussycat compared to the SVT40 I shot.

It's a cheek slapper for sure.
I went the wimp route and bought a shoulder mounted recoil pad that straps on over or under my shirt.
THAT made my last SVT-40 range trip very enjoyable..

It can't be any worse than firing 172gr mild steelcore Czech in a Mosin...with a t-shirt for padding. That'll letcha know you're shooting a rifle!

Here's mine,I stuck a bipod off of a Chinese RPK on it for the pic. I usually shoot Wolf ammo in it, anyone tried Olympic? I've heard good and bad. Derghost, let me know when you plan on stopping at Encks on a Fri, I'll try to get there.

count me in, in the fraternity.
they are not like a mosin. The recoil isnt bad as a mosin, but the cheek slap can be wicked. The firearm weighs very little, even less than a mosin, and firing that big of a cartridge out of that light weight of a rifle will rattle your fillings a bit.
Its an awesome firearm. i love mine, but it does cheek slap
wish i had pics for you

:poke: well, those SVTs are cool, but they lost out over the mosin 91/30 as the Russian designated sniper weapon. Mosin was phased out when the Dragunov came about...:poke:

The first time I stripped mine all the way down, I left it in a pile for a few weeks myself. Lots of parts. However, once I got the reassembly tutorial on-line, I got it back together in a snap. Really, much simpler that it seems when you're taking it down..

I currently have three SVT-series rifles, all Finn captures: 1939 Tula SVT-38 (my personal fave), a 1941 Tula SVT-40, and a 1941 Izhevsk SVT-40:
1939 Tula SVT-38

1941 Izhevsk SVT-40

The SVT-38 was the score of the century as far as I'm concerned... rare as hen's teeth, worth several thousand dollars to the right person, and I got it for $650 at an estate auction. I was livin' right that day!
Cheers,
~ Greg ~
