RUstypirate.....

On the old board you mentioned that youre a sailor, and that you bought your CETME so that you wouldnt be outgunned at sea... or maybei was drunk when i read that post, but basically since youre a sailor, i figured youd be the best to ask.... I've got a 30 ft Ranger, and plan on sailing it a bit this summer.... we're on the gulf coast of texas so first stop is gonna be Veracruz.... and then port hopping after that..... i've been reading articles like this one http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070422/wl_asia_afp/malaysiaimbmaritimepiracy_070422053352
for a while now, and am curious to know if maritime law allows for me to carry a rifle pistol and shotgun aboard my boat..... I'm assuming that if i enter a foreign port that they must be kept on the boat, but i dont know the legality and wondered if you wouldnt mind filling me in on those aspects of port to port sailing....... anyone else know feel free to chime in.... i'm not going to be anywhere near malaysia, but i've heard that from Belize south there are piracy issues....... so whats the law have to say about it? i havent had much luck searching for myself, and the one Coast Guard guy i asked didnt know because all he does is boiler repair....... any advice would be greatly appreciated....

MisterSquiggles,

The official rules regarding carrying of firearms on a vessel in international waters is a complex set of cobbled togeather laws and regulations.

My best advice to you would be to consult a Maritime Law attorney.

The last time I checked the law stated that beyond the 12 mile limit for shore, you are basically your own entity or country and ou can carry whatever firearms you want. In this region, if a vesel approaches to closer than 100 meters and ignores directions to go away, you are clear to fire upon them if you feel your life may be in danger.

Dealing with other countries is another matter entirely, and I will PM you with some advice on that.
