Guess what we bought yesterday: A SNAKE! I'm not a snake person but my 5yo is. He's begged me to catch a ring neck snake for weeks (since his granny killed one because it had an orange belly meaning it was poison....WRONG). I've searched our yard, the family's yard and all I have found was black widows.
He's got a little bucket I toss my change in and I told him he could buy one when he got enough money. We got to count it after vacation and dang, there was close to $100.00 in it. He picked out a little Pueblan milk snake which is colored up just like a King snake (red, yellow, black bands). The pet store owner does shows for the schools and knew my little one and gave him the best snake for his age. He handles it fairly well, way more than his mom and me but he hasn't got bit yet. Neither have I so let's hope I don't scream like a little byatch when/if it does. It's about as big around as a pencil and close to a foot long. He's a real animal lover but has his old man's sense of humor because he had me put the cage next to the gerbil cage "just to keep him nervous."

Snakes are fun as a kid! I had several California Kings and some Garter snakes when I was young. Just put a Pyrex custard glass with a goldfish and watch 'em go! Sometimes I would let them take my pinkie down thier gullet just to watch them be bummed when I took it out.....hehe! If I could time it right, I would let them do a figure 8 through my fingers for minutes at a time.

On the other hand.......they are dangerous if not supervised my the right person. I used to kill rattler's later in life but respected them as well. They can do some damage to you.........duh. Any snake must be treated with respect. They are gentle animals until prevoked (no matter what size) but have no logic or caring. Just survival.

Case file 83674: My DUMB F$#ing brother.

He had a 6 1/2' Burmese Python LOOSE IN THE G.D. HOUSE with a baby an toddlers!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

WTF!?!?

There is NO such thing as a tame snake. There is only respect for the animal. A 2 year old throwing toys at it for fun ain't it!!!!!!

I'll leave the rest of that alone. I just get mad.

I was shooting a couple of years ago and went to check my target. I was walking down with an empty gun (thank god) and was startled by a BEAUTIFUL (every bit of six feet long) Diamond Back. She (pretty) jumped one way and I jumped the opposite. We looked at eachother like "Dude...what are you doing here?" My buddy saw and rushed with a shotty. I wouldn't kil her, she was just on her way to a rat's nest ten feet away. And that's where she stopped and stayed. I guess she had a reservation for dinner.

If my rifle was full, I wouldn't have given her the chance for dinner. She lived that long.........why not more?

Sorry for the rant. I just think they need to be respected.

I hate snakes.
Stepped on a copperhead as a kid in PA and was God awfull lucky in it hit my boot top and barely knicked my skin.
I give them all WIDE bearth.
There used to be a huge rattler population in PA but it seems not today.
They had their place. And to me that place is out in the woods.

I had a python once. My wife made me get rid of it, and bought me a ferret the next day... Like that fooled anyone... Snake doesn't taste like chicken, by the way... That's just what they tell you because they cant describe it... It tases like a cross between pork chops and shrimp... Takes marinade really well, and is damn tasty grilled. Snakes do make good pets, though, as their fondness of your body heat makes them seem more friendly... Destro, my python, used to escape from his tank and get in bed with me. I'd wake up in the morning and he'd be curled up right next to me... It was actually quite funny. Now I know why my wife made me sell him...

Back when I was with 1st CAV we went to the NTC. The cook, Vietnam Vet, caught one of those Mojave rattlers and cooked it. I got some of it. Texture is a cross between fish and chicken. Rubbery and flaky at the same time. It was very good. Kind of like a chicken or fish without the fishy taste.
