Yesterday I was cleaning a few of my mausers and when I was putting the bolt assembly back together the rear of the bolt (under heavy spring tension) slipped out of my hand and hit me in the forehead, drawing blood :icon_redface: . Good idea to wear safety glasses when doing this next time.
I felt stupid when I did it.:icon_lol: Anyone ever do anything like this?

I've come close! I had one part my hair and put a dent in the ceiling. Just glad my wife didn't ever see or notice the mark. I prolly wouldn't have escaped bloodlessly.

Gloves and a 4x4 pice of wood to compress the spring
It is easy to to send a bolt part and spring into orbit if you are not careful:wtfflag:

Why not use the tool in the buttstock instead of a 2x4? That's what the round disk is for. Maybe I'm not understanding you though.

the tool being the Bolt takedown disc :) If you a late war gun (kreigsmodel) the hole is in the buttplate instead of the center of the stock.
I did take a G43 bolt to the chest the other day though.

I was taking a bolt or something apart not too long ago. I can't recall what (learned that from Alberto Gonzalez).
A part went flying in my work shop and it took me hours of hunting to find it.
Something of a box sized container with a tempered glass or thick plexi-glass window might be nice to keep renegade parts inside the box should they decide to take off on me.

I've shot an SKS top cover and springs across the room, over me shoulder!
The Mosin pins are under a ton of spring pressure, and ya gotta be careful when ya unscrew that.

While cycling the first round in I had my thumb pinched and cut between the bolt and dust cover! Was using my index finger and drug my thumb down dust cover with the bolt!:hammered:

Right after reading this last night, I nearly lost second finger on my left hand to a snapping M1 bolt. M1 thumb of the finger! It bled for two stinkin' hours. :monkey:
So don't feel bad.... beside's I wounded an Spec 5. instructor with the spring outta of a M2 when I was in Armorer's school at Ft. Lee. He was pizzed... :lolgreen:

LOL, Smokehouse, use the bottom side of your right hand to hold the op rod to the rear and use your right thumb to depress the follower in the M1. That prevents M-1 Thumb...hehe.

I wasn't even trying to cock the damned thing. The rifle was leaning up against the couch in my office, and I heard the wife approaching... so I reached out to grab it and move it! Whaaaam! %$%&$XX@@@@ :wallbash: :offhead:
