The guy at the motorcycle shop in town has a coffe cup on his desk thats full of rubber bands. He put a sign next to them that says "power bands $15" He never sold one, but people would ask questions and he'd play alond. a couple of weeks later he was rebuilding an engine that mysteriously lost compression. When he pulled the heads he found chunks of rubberband burnt to the valve seats.

/OK only the first part is true.

My personal favorite was the "Passenger Noise Reducer"

Unfortunately it looks like they are sold out :(

I dont get the spoof of the powerbands, you can change the powerband.
In two strokes is done by the expansion chamber, and the ports in the cylinder.
In four strokes, its done by the length and diameter of the header, the cam, and the porting in the head.

Same thing with the muffler or exhuast bearing. What do you call a piece of softer metal, such as copper, brass, bronze or other alloy that goes in between to pieces of metal that need to articulate. A bearing. Such as the bronze donut that allows the exhaust pipe to flex form the manifold. Sounds like an exhaust bearing to me.

JUst like some dummies should never be allowed to have guns, some dummies should never drive cars or ride motorcycles. The shop owner obviously told a tale about increasing HP with the rubber bands, and the customer tried it.
"see, ya take the plug out and put the power band in the head and screw the plug back in. Then ya get a boost to the piston from the stored power in the elastic band as it's compressed and bounces the piston back down. Presto. More HP"

True story:
Lady: I need a piston for my sons motorcycle.
Clerk: What kind ofmotorcycle?
Lady: Red
Clerk: What brand?
Lady: Honda (this was a Honda dealership, she got that part right)
Clerk: What model Honda?
Lady: I told you, red.
Clerk. single cylinder, two cylinders more?
Lady ?
Clerk: street bike or dirt bike?
Lady: It's a red Honda and I need a piston for it.

Simplified explanation that there are many pistons for red Hondas, with examples of 50cc and 350cc pistons shown. Written direction of what info was required to get correct piston.

I had to give the lady credit for coming into a motorcycle shop for her son.

A Lady takes her Mercedes into the dealship service center because it was running rough. The Service Manager asks her to leave it and come back in a couple of hours.

Two hours later the lady shows up and talks to the Service Manager....

Lady: So What is the deal with my car?

Manager: Oh, nothing too bad, just crap in the carburetor.

Lady: And how often do I have to do THAT?

Re: powerbands

Every engine has a "powerband", it is the range of RPM's when the engine is most "efficent". Due to marketing hype and shop jargon, some people who are not truely familiar with engines think that "power bands" (adjusting) is a bolt-on part.

While doing real work (Piston stroke/diameter/compression/cams, yada-yada) can effect the engine's powerband it is not something that has a quick bolt-on fix. The Joke is playing on the naievity (is that a real work) of the people who think look=performance (Import tuners, rednecks, yuppies insert your favorite stereotype here)

/not as funny when its explained
