Here is the scoop guys. I was lured into wideners.com for some Barnaul .308.
I was doing my purchase when I came across these plastic rounds. I read a little and decided to buy two boxes (40 rounds) to try them on my G3s. So I went to the range on Friday I tried the Barnaul and it was good, maybe a bit hotter than the regular S.A. NATO. Then I tried the plastics with the same rifle and no modifications and OMG. It was cool. very light recoil and at 50meters it was dead-on, very accurate. BTW it obviously did not cycle the rifle. Then I took out the original bolt with rollers and I installed another G3 bolt I had with the rollers removed. I inserted a magazine with two plastic rounds and fired.... same low recoil but this time it cycled, ejecting the spent round and loading the second one.
Conclusion: I ended up buying two cases of this stuff, a total of 2520 rounds for $507 @ 20 cents a round. including shipping.
I LOVE IT

OH and at 100 meters it still makes 4-6 inch groups. perfect for plinking steel

That will be great stuff to keep away the hungry rioting masses.

is it too late to cancel your order?

http://www.southernammo.com/products/products.htm when i bought a full 1000rds of regular FMJ from them it cost 21 shipped per 1000, this stuff is considerably light so you might save some $$$

would be curious to see what perro says about not having the rollers in the rifle! did you think about shortening the spring on the guide rod?

how did it cycle without the rollers? ejected every round?

Without the rollers, it's basically a blowback action.

yes, but i was really wondering how hard it recoiled. really slamming into the buffer hard surely couldnt be a good thing?

DAMN IT!!!!!!

that's a better deal.
I'll check if I could cancell the order and buy it there. I'll save some $$$

Now to answer the other questions.
Yes, it cycled flawlessly, it doesn't eject the round too far, only 2-3 feet away. the recoil is comparable to a pistol caliber carbine. more than a .22 less than a .223
The actual projectile is only about 19 grains so it comes out of that barrel hauling ass while the bolt without the rollers moves back with little force.
I tried it in my 16" barreled G3 and in another one with an 18" barrel. they both worked great. Cheap and fun. plus you should see everyone's faces at the range when I told some guy that they were plastic bullets.
hahaha

BTW I took the projectile out of a round and noticed that ther is a copper sleeve that surrounds the bottom of the projectile. I suppose that is what keeps the plastic from messing up the barrel.

how would it mess up the barrel? plastic fouling? if so just run acetone through the bore, it will be gone in no time! i think im gonna order some!

Southernammo is about 30-40 miles from my house. I'm glad I stocked up on 7.62 when they were selling 147gr fmj surplus for $109 a case.:icon_mrgreen:

The copper base is a gas check. It offers the projectile a better seal to the bore and keeps the powder burn from melting the bullet base. They are used for really SOFT lead and plastic bullets, many times to keep the barrel scrubbing down to a minimum. Sounds like great training/plinking ammo for the kiddies with the rollers removed!:jumping:

I believe that hk makes a bolt with no rollers just for shooting wood or plastic bullets. There was a picture on the old site of it.
