All,
A 1919a6 has been on my short list for sometime now and am finally ready to make the plunge. I'm looking for some advice on builders out there that have a good quality product at a reasonable price. Please post the good and bad of various vendors. Places I've looked at: Allied Arms, ORF, Black Bear, and John McGuire. Allied and ORF are about the same price and seem to be on the lower end of the spectrum on quality. I've heard nothing but good on Black Bear, but they are pricey! I'm currently leaning towards John McGuire, only a tad more than AA or ORF, but comes with a lifetime warranty and everthing I can find has been positive. Are there other options/suggestions?
Thanks,
L.I.T.

Have you been put past building your own? I have little to no skills and did it with a little guidance from Big Steve. It's actually a pretty easy build. I've handled an Allied 1919 and it was nice. The thing I didn't like is their logo on the side. With building your own, you can have the original markings without having the extras. I don't think you could go wrong with Allied, Black bear or John though.

The main differance is the triggers. I think I would lean toward one with KMP's new trigger. Some of them don't work well with crankfires. And you will want one of those for sure!.

I would still try to build your own. With Tanker and Mike's help it was actually easier than an AK, just more expensive.
The KMP trigger and sear with an Rapidfire 80% sideplate is the way I went.

I suggest building one. Here's my 1919a6, Started out as a OOW $299 a4 parts kit. Other parts are engraved Halo 80% Semi RSP, KMP Trigger / Sear, internals machined by 30calmachinegunner over at 1919a4.com.

They're relatively simple to build (once all the internal parts have been machined) - just drilling, counter sink, and smash rivets.

Thanks everyone! For the first, I think a pre-built is the way to go for me. I might try a build later. Sounds like a KMP trigger/sear is the way to go. Also a crank fire is definately in the future!
Thanks again everyone!

I just don't know who uses the KMP setup ...so research that. I would stay away from ORF for sure.

I'll vouch for the KMP trigger/sear and ORF sideplate. I hear they have some quality defects on newer plates though. Our own Big Steve does machining on internals too.

Build your own. I've done two, the first took a Saturday, the second one I had done in 3 or 4 hours. KMP is the way to go, There is some legwork involved in getting it all together, but once you've got it all, the rest is a piece of cake. The guy that installed my sa trigger and did the lock frame welding and the bolt/barrel extention machining was very reasonable, excellant work and fast turn-around. It even came back parkerized. PM me and I'll give you his e-mail address. Mark

My Allied is fine, you're welcome to come check it out if you want. Trigger on these things is a bit funky, I see a crank in my near future!
I finally got to shoot mine, and ran 200 rds. thru it without issues. Was a big hit with my buddies!

I have heard of a lot more issues with ORF than Allied...

TexLurch, Thanks for the offer to come down. I've found one and just waiting to finalize the deal. Yes, even after the warnings, it's an ORF. I'll post pics and post even more questions once it comes in.
Thanks again!

The only problem I have with ORF other that really rough machine work is that the ingraving was so faint after I lightly blasted it it was gone>

Thanks Big Steve, finish isn't "that" important right now. I'm sure once the bug bites, then that will be a whole new ball game and everything will need to be perfect. :)
Thanks again,
Jat

Let me know if I can machine your internals for you. I can do them for $80 bucks if you get the new wider KMP trigger that does not require the lock frame built-up for the narrow trigger.

Steve,
I've already located a kit and on the list over at 1919a4.com for the 80% receiver for $90 so I very well may be contacting you. I want to make sure I like it as much as I think I will first though ;) Thanks!

i highly suggest john b mcguire personally
he is a good dude, and does good work. You also dont pay for it until you have it in your hands and are happy, then you send him the money
quality control issues abound with the ORF
time delay issues with lack of customer service with Allied
black bear gives you a trigger safety which none of the others do i dont believe, but he is alot more expensive than Mr. Mcguire.
good luck Mr T, but be careful dude, this thing is a gateway

I would go with a John McGuire rifle. I bought a barrel from him and he is a fantastic guy to do business with.
No complaints about him onb the 1919 sight, as matter of fact has fixed several peoples 1919's from other manufactureres.
