Last week I ordered one of the folding Choate stocks from RTG. I got it this afternoon and put it on my Cetmestein. At the same time I put on a wide HK handguard, now the only thing that shows it's a Cetme is the cockingtube and tripleframe. :D I bought the complete kit with the HK rear section, I didn't want to take my wood Cetme backend apart to try it out. It actually fits my PTR receiver better than the Cetme backend.

Don't pay any attention to the scope, it's the only one I didn't already have mounted on a rifle and already had weaver rings on it. It's my Dad's ancient Weaver K6. It looks sort of retro on it! :lolgreen:

Sorry for these poor pics, but it was the best I could do with my cheap camera and the poor flash. I might take some more pics in the sun light after I get the right sling for it.

Don't think poorly of that old K6...I've got one that's about 40yrs. old and it is still ticking. It was my Dad's also...That old Jarhead used to hit things at distances I could only dream of with that thing. I still use it myself from time to time.
Sorry to wander off topic but those old K6 scopes were pretty damned good to still be hanging in there.

I think I like the style of the side folder better than the retractable...what do they have in them for a buffer set up? I've yet to see one in the flesh.

Jbrunney, I killed my first deer with that K6 mounted on a .30-06 barreled mauser 98 (also my Dad's, I still have it too!.) The optics are still very clear for a 50+ year old scope. It still holds zero under heavy recoil. I had it on .300 Win Mag at one time.

Bladeworks, they use a very hard black rubber stopper looking thing, it bounces like one of those super balls that they used to sell years ago.
I have no idea how long it will hold up, but I guess as many rounds as I can afford to shoot nowdays! :lolgreen:

Smokehouse,

Really nice job!

How do you like the Choate stock? I am considering buying one.

Thanks,

I like it too. I have a Romanian folder on the AK and a telescoping stock on the AR. I like folders or para stocks on all rifles more for look than function. The CETME is the only hold out...maybe it's next after seeing yours.

Length wise it fits me much better than the wooden stock, it is about 1-1/2" longer. The top rail of the stock is at the same height as the wooden stock so it is no help in supporting the check for shooting. Especially with a high mounted scope.
It seems to be of very good quality and the G3 rear section with rod and spring I got with it for RTG look to be new.
I also like the sling swivel on the backplate. It is heavier than the wooden stock but lighter than a collapsible one. It is slightly shorter when folded than the collapsible one is collapsed.
I sort of wish I'd held out and got the adjustable one, but it is 40-50$ higher and I this one fits me pretty good the way it is.

Forgot to compliment you on the rifle, but my mind wanders around a bit and there's nothing like a blast from my youth to take me away...you've done a fine job on it and it came out looking great Smokehouse.

Very nice lookin' CETMEstein you got there! I've been tempted to buy one of those side-folders for a while now, but never could get myself to "pull the trigger on one", so to speak.

I actually kinda like the look of the K6 scope on there, though I never really liked the "chin-weld" (as opposed to cheek-weld) that you're stuck with when shooting the CETME scoped. Perhaps you could rig some sort of cheek rest on there...

I tried the Choate folder on mine, but i never really liked it. I wound up swapping it out for an ACE folder, much nicer, more solid and better feeling.

I don't know about the other guys but I am olllllld! 58 years, with 158 years woth of mileage. My bike riding days were before the motocross boom. We flat track raced and hill climbed. Our gear was helmet, leathers, gloves and one steel shoe! :lolgreen: I lost skin by the square foot and broke bones and ruined joints. Damn the stoopid stuff we do when young!

My youngest is 3 years older than you, so I think more respect is due to us old farts! :lol2:
