I have a sporterized mosin and I was wanting to install a muzzle brake (not a clamp on). Could I retro fit a .308 or ak muzzle break with no problems?

I don't see why not, though you'd have to thread the barrel, or find a way to pin one on.

Cetme/G3 threads are 15X1mm AK's are 14X1mm Lefthand. AR's are 1/2inX20. I'm not sure what FAL's are. You need to measure the barrel and see what thread will go on it.

With the price of MNs so cheap. why not spoterize one . 15 years ago I bubbaed one that was $50 bucs . Now I wish I would have used one of the cheap RUSSIAN MNs . Not knowing it was a FINN captured MN at the time . Just call me BUBBA BUELL. Go ahead I am BIG boy I can take it.

It's one thing to do it, but to tell it is all wrong.:icon_biggrin:
I butchered a No4Mk1 that was CHERRY, when I was young. It looked good though. I'm older and a born-again gunluver and will not backslide to such again.
BUT,
I saw brakes for Mosin's for sell on the net. I'll have to pull that up again and provde a link. Don't know how they attach.

I checked my MN 91/30 barrel dimensions. There is about 25mm of length infront of the sight and it tapers from 15 mm diameter at the sight to 14.86 mm at the muzzle. So it looks like the an AK MB threaded for 14mm LH might work out if you can find a 14MM LH threading die. Also, the bullet diameters are both .311-.312" so the bullet passage would be large enough as well. The challenge would be to make sure that the brake is square to the axis of the bore to avoid any interference with the bullet's flight path.
The Tapco SKU: AK0688 @ $14.99 might look pretty good.
find it here: http://www.tapco.com/proddesc.aspx?Id=AK0688
You could drill a hole into the sight base parallel to the axis of the bore and use a roll pin to index to the notch in the brake to keep it timed.

I second what 97 sig said on making sure the MB will work with the bullet size. This is one I made and put on a M38 for a guy that had sporterized it. I disassembled and threaded the barrel on a lathe. According to him, the MB he had put on by pinning left the rifle at a high rate of speed and sailed 50 to 75 yards when he pulled the trigger. I figured he was lucky that it was not more securely mounted.

DRINE, I have learned a BIG lesson, when I bought that FINN MN I bought 4 of them at that show for $50.00 a pop. They where a little crudy , but had very nice bores. Not having the internet back then I had no idea what the FINN MH was worth. Then about 10 years ago me and 6cylrider98 met at the SAAB dealer threw an old friend . He came over my place to fix my SAAB one day. then the next thing you know we have some guns out looking at them (you know how it gets like that) and hes like -What the *%$* happend to this FINN MN. So I got the name BUBBA BOBBY. Back to the MB. I have seen the pin on MBs for the SKS shoot off the end of the barrel too. PIGLATINHATER , Go with a threaded on , My be AK74 type. I had a swist on AK74 brake on an SKS my Daughter used to shoot when she was a kid and it seemed to knock the kick down for her, but it might not look right on a SPORTER .

Don't buy that, I wasted my money on that one, the thing doesn't mount straight, are you trying to cut down on recoil? Go with a AK-74 style break, they work great. I have everything you need to do the job, email me.

Wild Bill, will this unit from Pacific Canvas and Leather mount straight? Most of the stuff that I have bought from them has been of good quality.

Not sure, I just found it surfing, I just relized something else, this is for the M-44, so it probably wouldn't fit on a "standard" M91/30 or M-38.

When I BUBBAED mine "SOME ONE PLEASE KICK ME" Mine was counter bored, so I drilled in to the counter bore to make a brake. I would still get the kit from WBC and do it RIGHT.
