View Full Version : Lightweight bolt/carrier for plastic bullets
Saw the latest Sportsman's guide flyer has G3/CETME lightweight bolt and carrier w/o locking lugs. Designed to cycle the action with that blue plastic German practice ammo.

For those thinking about ordering, did a bit of research and turns out You can get the bolt/carrier AND 1000 rounds for $289 at Dans which is a better deal. Just the 1000 round is $189 at Dan's.

Has anyone here personally shot these out of either a cetme or HK type of rifle. Just wonder how cleanly they eject the caseings with the fluted chambers. Would that have a gripping effect on the softer plastics?
Also hate that they cost more than a simular sized case of SA or others in the day, sucks that the value of surplus ammo shot thru the roof.

There are a few here that shoot them, and all reports sound positive. I think Buelligan shoots them in his back yard.

IIRC someone did post range test results here and they ejected just fine.

found it.... seems like a good buy to me. I wonder how hard it is to get that carrier to work in a CEtme though.

The carrier will not work in a CETME without modificaton to the carrier tube. It has a flared bell at the front that is too large at the front to fit inside a CETME Cocking tube, and slightly too long. Also, you would need to use an HK recoil spring and guide, as the CETME recoil guide bushing will pass all the way through the larger HK tube. It could be modified to work, but then would only be specific to one rifle or the other, but not both. I decided not to modify mine, and have used it in my G3 clone,,,, but I am watching for someone with one to sell for me to chop down and try for the CETME. Bolt gap is not an issue on these as there are no rollers and the bolt does not lock. Accuracy is fairly amazing out to fifty to seventy five yards. It is great cheap fun.....they are pretty dirty though. Buelligan is in fact the Commanding General of the Plastic Ammo Regiment and he gets extremely excited at the mention of the DAG Blue,,,,I'm surprised he has not spoken up yet.

I wonder how well it would work with the suppressor....

My estimation would be that the sound of the action would likely be louder than the report of the rifle....

Somehow I sense that someone might be wanting to try and convert a CETME Bolt and carrier to work with the DAG:rolleyes: SO for JFowls benefit,,,,,Here are some more pics that show the lightning cuts made to bring the bolt carrier down to weight and how the bolt head is pinned into place, minus the rollers. The heads on the DAG ammo cases are smaller than a standard round, and the bolt head is also machined to prevent being able to close on a standard round, to prevent accidentally firing real ammo with the practice bolt head. The CETME bolt head, however, will extract the DAG cases.....The pics are deceiving a little bit because of the close ups, but the bolt carriers and heads are exactly the same length....
