Hey, anyone know a source for Yugoslavian AK mags? I heard they had some sort of bolt hold-open feature when used with Yugo AKs....is this the case?

Yes, the followers have a high hump on 'em that stick up in the way of the bolt. Remove the magazine and the bolt shuts.

Some guy on AKforum just sold 12 of 'em. Gotta keep an eye out.

In that case, what good is the hold-open? You'll still have to remove the mag, insert fresh one, and charge.

If that is the case, I'll not bother.

I do like the hold-open on an SKS...really makes the transition tile if you load with strippers less. I gan do 20 rnds thru the SKS (has standard internal mag) in the time one can put 30 thru an AK...aimed shots, at least.

Someone (some company) has made a "bolt hold open" safety lever for the Ak rifle. Using one of these in conjunction with the Yugo BHO mags is the cat's pajamas . . .

Dang, I though we were going to talk about the fluer-de-lis mags again.

Bolt hold open devices are only for mortals, not for us ninja's that always tactically reload, Just ask the mall ninja smiley :mallninja:

/I love some of these smileys.

Here is one, sold by Krebs (not made by Krebs, iirc)

Yugo mag holds open the bolt, you snap on the safety, it holds the bolt open while you change magazines, snap off the safety and profit.

Do a search on line, there is a way to convert a normal follower to make it last shot bolt hold open too. Just though like above, all you do is the the notice that you are out of rounds by the bolt not closeing, where as with out it you get the click after it closes.

You can get Chinese followers, and grind of the little bumps that keep the follower down on the inside of the mag. Or get some Chinese mags, and do the same,I think the Chinese mags have only one bump to grind off.

Planning had some Chicom mags for a good price,if you want some, give him a PM.

The bho mags work great for the range i go to. Before anybody can check, change targets, all bolts must be held open. So if you dont have a yugo mag, you got to close the bolt on a piece of brass.

Yeah, some ranges are like that.

I always make it a point of removing the mag and cycling the bolt at least twice in front of the Range Offier to demonstrate that it is empty when shooting my AK.
