Well, I entered the AK world finally, full bore. finished layaway pays on a Wasr-10 hi-cap, post ban, with vert 4grip and diag brake, bayo the whole shebang. And a Yugo UF!
I can't wait to go to the range. I can tell right now that I'm gonna need more ammo that I've been using with the SKS, lots more. I gotta mess o' mags, 30roundrs, and a few of the 20round tanker mags because they're so hi-quality.
Range reports to follow in a few weeks.
I be stylin in the AKs now...the Yugo is really hi-quality and in fine shape.

I had my Yugo Fixed Stock on consignment for a while and yesterday brought it back home cause I really didn't want to sell it! Looked at some other more expensive AKs and they really aren't that much better. Got the fixed and the underfolder and will probably pick up a side folder of some sort. Love my CETME but the AKs are a lot cheaper to shoot!

Yeah, I know...I've been delinquent on pix fer years. I'll hafta get my digi-cam fired up and take pix of the whole fam of rifles.
And I thought back in 2003 that the CETME would be enough milsurp rifle for me...:roflmao:
No if I can just remember that kalinka optic flicker sight that K98 recommendd for the wasr with the mounting plate...

AK's are nice though I don't feel the need to get any more that just the one Yugo UF I built last year. IMHO the UF are nicer than the standards

Steelcore and everyone else, unless there is a huge load of ak mags out there, the supply might get really tight, since no one in the us makes a steel mag worth much and the plastic ones are questionable. One vendor told me he would have a hard time replaceing the mags he was selling for ten bucks a peice with wholesale and make money thus the pipeline maybe drying up on surplus ak mags. When the chinese dried up look at what happened to those prices too.

Tanstaafly4y, Yepper, I would buy what ever you think you might need and even might want to buy in the future, as the importation of magazines and such may be stopped again at anytime. Even high cap might bite the bullet too(remember what a preban ar-15 mag cost during the ban compared to before and even now). Thus I have tried to get what I want now. The only reason I jumped to buy a 223 norinco ak was I had a bunch of magazines for it(look up what a chinese norinco or polytech 223 30 round cost at any retailer now), for example, the availablity of cheap 223 ak mags in steel is gone, and the new made plastic ones(promags which I dont think stand up to wegners) aint cheap(fifteen vs less than ten for wegners, used galil mags were less than five just last year before the galil receivers and kits hit the market).

Steelcore, I heard on the radio that one in six guns in the world was a AK type of firearm. You better be catching up with the rest of the world, I think they said there were eighty to a hundred million of them made.

there's no competing in the 762x39 mkt, or in the AK mag mkt...the mkt is flooded..
Thanks 4 the link K98, and I'll do my best, Okie, to take up some slack.
Ooohm, woork is almost over....I'm going home to get a little AKtion:lovefest:

R those Yugo Bayonets? You want to sell one of them?
They look nice, did you build them?

Yes, they are Yugos. I got them without frogs and bought those from a guy who makes and sells them. Don't want to sell any now but will keep you in mind if I do.

Mebbe Vegas, or Germany, or Netherlands are in my future. :party0045:
Back to the topic of the new :ak: i got:
I gave the Yugo a good look, and the internals look like the rifle's never been fired--no carbon on the gas bolt face, still cosmo on it, shiny silver.
The receiver's been spray-paintd with black matte paint of some sort, maybe rust-oleum...real shame, that. I think I'll see if mineral spirits might take it off, then mebbe I'll try to oxpho-blue it or something. The paint job is that bad...woods' in awesome shape, and those fittings look as if they have a wearing blue finish (which I think look great on an AK...) I think one of the previous owners must've thought that made it look worn out or something. (Stripping/Finishing experiences or ideas welcome)
Of the 2 mags that came with the Yugo, one is too wide at the top to fit into the receiver...anybody ever re-formed a mag? I'm contemplating either grinding the top to fit, or re-bending it to fit.
This yugo came with the flip-up tritium night sights for the rear sight, and after cleaning cosmo away from them, I took it into a dark room...sure enuf, they work! Cool! Now I have two Yugo rifles with working night sights (the other being the Yugo SKS, with tritium in front and rear nite sights).
I'm happy withthe purchase, and with a little bit of attnetion I can get these cosmetic details worked out. I'll be out to shoot in the next 3-10 days.
--ETA--
Just founf a pic of the yugo nite sight front sight, and I gotta check that when I get home...I didn't even see hiw it folds up until I saw this pic:

Well, there was a hold on the WASR10, but I got it last night. Turns out the one yugo mag that was too wie to fit in the Yugo fits nice in the Wasr-10 hi-cap.
THe Wasr 10 has a chrome bbl, but it was still rough in there...maybe some of the hard chrome came off the lands or sonething...after some CLP soak, then steel and brass brushes, I got ti smoothrd out...there was a bit of brown on the patches from cosmo or rust. The chrome in there is shiny, and there are some scratches in the chrome from some mean-spirited cleaning with steel tools I think, but the rifling is ultra crisp and sharp...and boy is a chrome bore shiny! (I now know what you guys mean when you say 'dark bore' when I compare this to the mosin or something that is NOT chromed...)
The Wasr has a lot of cosmo, inside and out, and one totaly gunked-up mag that's gonna need the oven treatment or disassembly and the WD-40 treatment. Four years ago, these WASR 10 hi-caps went for about 300usd, now they're 365+tax (I paid slightly less for me CETME 4yrs ago)
The wood on the WASR has the front pistol grip, and this plywood is really laquered up. the butt and gas tube cover wood are not finished. I may sand the laquer off the foregrip just to make it match.
This WASR 10 came with all the extras:
-->3mag romanian magpouch, with additional pocket for modern black oil bottle, and a small pocket for the cleaning kit ampule.
-->Updated cleaning kit ampule, has one tool I've never seen b4--a screwdriver with front sight elevation adjustment tool! This'll come in handy for my SKS too, althoughI've never had to mess with elevation)
-->2mags, look unused, but a bit cosmo-ey
-->Spiffy romanian bayo, drenched in cosmo. The steel is nice and hard, but I don;t wanna put too much of an edge on it since the scabbard is steel (meaning threre's metal on metal contact--tough to keep a razor edge but OK for field grade edge). has saw back, and the fot-to scabbard wire cutters...I gotta test those out! The bayo does fit the Yugo too.
All in all, a nice package. I like to compare it to the Yugo since they both have their strong points.
---------------------
Back to the Yugo:
Well, I checked, and the tritium fold-up nite sight works like a charm! Just cleaned the cosmo out of it, and it lit right up in a very dark room.
The 'home job' paint job woes continue...the grip had a silver look to it, and was kinda sticky (I'd always seen the pix of Yugo Grips being black)...so I scratched at it...lo and behold, silve paint cam off and left a black line--someone had spray painted the grip silver!?!?!
Anyhow, I'm gonna either replace it or see if the mineral spirits will take the paint off without damaging the pistol grip.
Still, the price was right on this AK, and the UF is so awesome, and I've fiddled with CETMEs a bunch, so I'm sure I can get these minor cosmetic issues fixd up.
Range trip tonight to my buddy's for a little 50yd field test of the AKs...hes got the Romanian 75rnd drum ready...can't wait to put that on the yugo!

Ya know, you could have just posted pictures and saved yourself the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. . .
:ttiwwop:
I've never heard of a WASR having cosmoline on/in it. They are new commercial manufacture and sent right over to us . .

-->Well, I'm a writer, and I still hafta get the digi cam up and running.
THe Wasr does in deed have cosmo on it. the accessries most of all. the Wasr was made in '62 so maybe that's why it had cosmo on it...not as heavy on the rifle itself, but the outside of it is sticky with a thin layer of dried cosmo with dust particles stickin to it.
