Here are a couple of interesting mags that passed through my hands recently.
The first is a Tula Bakelite in 7.62x39.
The second is a Russian Aluminum Waffle Mag.
What have you guys found?

I saw that as soon as I posted it. You weren't supposed to be that observant.

Anyone know what it is about Yugo AK mags that provides the 'bolt hold-open' feature on the Yugo underfolder? DO any other mags act that way in the yugo?
Sorry if this hijacks your thread, GearShanty...but it is an AK mag question on a peculiar ak mag feature.

Chinese mags can be moded to do the same thing if you grind down the little bumps inside the mag, that stop the follower from coming all the way up.
If you buy a spare sellector and notch it to hold back the bolt when you flip it up into the safe position,it is a great addition to any Ak in my opinion.

It's in the mag follower, looks like a molded in half round, catches the bolt, but the bolt still goes forward when the mag is removed. I picked 3 up this weekend for 8.00 each, was all the guy had. At one show I picked up 3 or 4 for the same price, you have to look at the follower, easy to spot, I will have ot dig some out and post a pic.

Out of the mags I have in stock, the Yugos, Bosnian 2-lines and Chinese all hold the bolt open. Again, as soon as you remove the mag, the bolt closes. The selector lever can be notched to hold the bolt open. It's an easy dremel tool modification. The Yugo M92 Krinkovs have the notched selector lever.
Here's a picture of the Krinkov selector lever.

Here is the Bosnian I posted on cetmerifles some time ago. I bought this mag to go with my Yugo M70ab2, paid $50, which is a darn good price for this mag.
I'm not a fan of the bolt hold open mod of the safety. Don't need it, don't want it. If it makes you happy, have at it!

Here's a picture of the Krinkov selector lever. I think your kit was "augmented" along the way to you. I have two yugo krink kits and neither has that fancy safety lever. They both have standard ones.

I like the mod . I mainly use it at a regulated range near me. They require actions be locked open,or a chamber flag inserted. Other then that,I don't really see much advantage to it.
Of course the notch could allow dirt and debris to get into the reciever. But to jam an AK it would have to be a chunk of gravel or something pretty major.
My M90 kit came with the selector notched, by Zastava.

My M90 kit came with the selector notched, by Zastava. Interesting. I've got a naked M92 kit and a saw cut one, and neither has a notched safety.

looks to me like it's just a notch in the selector lever that grabs the charging handle when you hold the bolt back and swith the safety on.

That's pretty much it.
Dave look at the pic in post no. 8 in this thread,GearShantys post. All you need is the notch, a bolt hold open mag,and you are in business.

You could get one from red star arms but it's cheaper just to get a selector and do it yourself. Of course you might get one with your Yugo kit,on some M70 AB2s,and more so on some of the newer models. I have heard of alot people getting them with krinks,m90s and M95s.
