I have been reading mixed reviews on the SOCOM and figured you guys could tell me straight.
I found a used V1 model without all the rails on the side and bottom for $1,200. Looks to be in great shape.
I am looking for a fun gun to shoot at our farm and mostly bowling pins, water jugs and used computers etc. Not looking to shoot a match with this gun. I have a bunch of LC ammo to play with also.
So am I going to regret picking up a SOCOM?
I do have a Garand, AR, AK, but no M1A style rifle.
Some reviews say the accuracy sucks and others say 1.5 - 2 inch groups.
Anyone own / shot one first hand to give me the scoop??? THANK YOU.

I own an m1a loaded model with mid weight NM barrel. It is one of my all time favorite guns next to my cetme. I have never had an issue with mine and have been wanting a socom as well. Is there anyway you can take it for a test drive so to speak?? I haven't heard anything negative about the socoms. They are worth their salt IMO.

Buy it. That's a great price.
I have a Socom and it is a great little rifle, and accuracy is right up there with the big boys.

my friend in long island had one, and it couldnt hit the broad side of a barn... then he changed out the stock and it was a tack driver, sooooooo if it isnt shooting well, there might be a simple explanation.

Well, I passed on both. I couldn't get over the many negative review of the SOCOM and didn't want to take a chance. As for the DPMS I went on their website in the Forum section and couldn't believe the issues with FTF. The company website forums had many threads of guns having to be returned and reworked??????
Anyway, I picked up a real nice FAL parts kit today. Now the mission is to find a Nice Receiver.

I respect your decision not to buy one, but I believe you made a mistake. I own a SOCOM 16 (bought it when they first came out) and have never had a FTF, even with soft tips nor hollow points. Great weapon and accurate enough to excell as a "battle" rifle if the SHTF.
