I think it is possible, but you have to shop around. FAL's come in many configurations but I think you can get a low end one for 6 or 7 hundred. It might take some looking at different places to find one for sale though.

I just sold a nice one for $750. Century receivered guns should be in the $500-$600 range...so I would stay away from those.

i think i've seen this guy trying to sell an imbel receivered imbel FAL for around $650... it looked pretty nice but there was a crack on a non stress point of the receiver. i was temped but i didn't go for it cause i'm still working on my para.

might still be around

Henry, I wouuld stay away from a cracked reciever, especally on a non stress point, I wonder if there was a probem with the heat treat, but if you can see one, and the entire fal receiver is heat treated, it shouldnt be cracking.(unless it was some how embrittled in a spot, or something weird)

well that was really one thing that put me off too
the seller said that apparently someone when they installed the bolt they had it in the locked position on the carrier and shoved it real hard and cracked it, it's not a factory crack

but still i guess?

Buying any firearm with a crack in the receiver or frame is just trouble waiting to happen. Why put yourself or anyone nearby at risk. Sure it may be a "good deal" but I mean really... Its just not worth it in my opinion.

I'm waiting to take delivery on an Imbel kit. They are around for $200. Sometimes you can find a receiver reasonably priced and get in under $600. My understanding is that they are pretty easy to build. I'm looking forward to it because this is my first build gun. Wish me luck.

Don't see how that could possible happen. The bolt just sort of "floats" in the carrier, and if you tried to insert the carrier with the bolt all the way in the back position with the bolt lugs under the carrier ramp, it probably just wouldn't slide in. I can't believe anyone could, short of using the BFH, shove the bolt/carrier in hard enough to crack the receiver!

Besides, the area where I think it would be cracked, then, is where the takedown latch latches onto the upper receiver. I'd have to have it come unlatched under recoil - probably screw up the rattail.
