I've been bogged down horribley for the past month. Haven't even had the time to try out the mg42 again. I just finished the final touches on it last night. I've spent the past 4 weekends, 10 or more hours a day working on it. I just need to brag a bit to make it seem worthwhile. So here it is. A student has limited mobility and needs an aid at school to carry his books. The aid has to get stuff from his backpack and place it on his desk as he can't even lift them. Here's a solution my team and I came up with. I'm studying to be an electrical engineer but did mostly mechanical engineering calculations and whatnot. I had to design the electrical controls all on my own though as everyone else on the team are mechanical engineers. The drawers slide out and hold his books, laptop, etc.

How many books can it fit in the magazine?
Are you guys going to make a working proto type or working scale model?
Looks like it could help out with alot of things.

That pretty cool. Looks like a lot of hard work there!

Man that is cool, I hope you can get it to work. A handicap student could really use something like that. It just keeps getting better when people put their minds to work . Keep it up.

Can you put a quick-release on the blue part, and make it interchangeable with Perro's dual-CETME AA mount?

(just kidding, nice work!)

It holds 2 books, a laptop and whatever other school supplies. I've got some extra power screws left over that I might adapt to my mg42 tripod. It would be kind of neat to remotely control the aiming of the gun.

If you guys build it we want pics, but sounds like good experience too. I have found the design aint as tough some times in 3d modeling as getting the existing portions right. Does your program do stress analysis or did you have to pull the eliments out and use some other program to evaluate them(or even gasp by hand)?

We are going to build it for sure. Ordering all the materials in the next few weeks and I'll machine some of the pieces over the summer. We have until December to finish. It is FAR easier modeling the design but trying to get his wheelchair modeled was a pain. Even more so since he lives 3 hours from here. We have a ton of pictures and measurements so we have a pretty good model of the chair.
We ran finite element analysis on all pieces. We did all stress, strain, and deflection calculations by hand and used the CAD software to verify our results. Here's a few pictures below. The software exagerates the deflections so they are more easily visualized.
