Thought I'd tell you guys about this as at least you'll understand why I think it is a big deal.

This past week I crossed paths with a couple of old friends bearing gifts. One brought me 80 rounds of .300WM Federal Gold Medal Match ammunition and the other brought me 180 rounds of 7.62NATO M118.

We've been in contact through the years, just don't see each other as often as we used to. Couldn't imagine a more thoughtful gift for someone they knew likes to shoot.

It was nice to catch up with them.

wow, everyone needs friends like that. I thought it was grand that I got a box of Fed Gold Medal Match for my Rem 700 in 308 last year for my birthday. I'd tell them to visit more often. :)

Friends bearing ammo is always a good thing. That .300winmag is pricey...my buddy has some rifle that shoots it...it is mighty powerful stuff...big game hunting round fer sher.

I am actually kinda' new to the .300WM. I ended up with a "project gun" that someone started. It is a single shot target rifle based upon a U.S. Enfield action with a Pattern 14 bolt and a comercial barrel all in a heavy target stock.

I should say it now has a Pattern 14 bolt as when I got it the "original" bolt was in place but looked like it had been buried for many years. Unlike the very clean action the bolt was so badly pitted there was no smooth surface anywhere. Also the bolt face was not opened up for the magnum case.

Once the P14 bolt body was fitted, I dropped the old "no-go" gage in and the bolt wouldn't even think of dropping. Put in a "go" and it just closes.

Anyway, my intention is to finish the build as an "any sight" gun for 600 and 1000 yard matches.
